One key fob is recognized as driver number 3. Is there any way to get the car to accept presets for no. 3?
Alternatively can I reprogram the key fob to be driver number 2?

Thanks

Re: Al

this happens when the dealer lost a key and did not replace it properly.....the only way this can be fixed is by a technician with a diagnostic tool or computer.....the issue is any time a key is added the driver number will be incremented by one...so the next key will be driver 4 for instance....the procedure for a lost key however is to delete all keys, then reprogram the existing key and the replacement key as driver 1 and 2 respectively....the reason for this is now there is a security problem, Key 1 is still active and out of the vehicle owners control, so theoretically that car can be stolen without having to break a thing because the crook used the key....by deleting all keys the tech is disabling the lost key and it can never be used to start the car again

The reprogramming does not need to be done by the dealer. A YouTube video explains the process. I purchased a used 2017 CT6 and dealer only had one Fob. They ordered me a second Fob. While I was waiting for that new Fob to arrive, I decided I Wilson wanted a third Fob. I ordered that #3 Fob from eBay. By following that YouTube video, I programmed them myself.

But what numbers did they show up as? Did they become number 2 and number 3, or did they become number 3 and number 4? (I'm assuming there was at one time an original number 2 that was lost before you got the car.)

I did it 3 years ago, so I don’t remember everything, but, no, it never said number 4.

I had the same problem as OP, when bought used 2020 CT6. No #1 fob. Had car at dealer to correct it. It was a minor disaster. They bricked the car for a day and a half, unable to start it. I waited 4 hours before they fessed up. Eventually they had factory assistance to explain to them how to fix. Finally after two days I got the car back with Fobs #1 and #2.

If you program a fob using the simple or quick programming it will always show up as the next number in line--usually #3 and you cannot link memories to it. If you want it be any number like #1 or #2, you will have to use the long method which will erase all programmed fobs and assign new numbers in the sequence you program them.
