When was the first year introducing AFM/DOD on Cadillac Escalade

I would say yes. Look under your intake manifold and see if the valley cover looks like a waffle. If it does, you have the AFM hardware. My understanding is that those have all the hardware including the AFM camshaft and lifters. That of course means you also have all the o-rings under the valley cover that are prone to leaking as well. The AFM lifters themselves are notorious for failing. With 108,000 mi on it, if you buy it, I would just plan on doing an AFM delete on it mechanically. How to replace the oil pickup tube o-ring simply due to age at this point, upgrade to a Melling oil pump, use an OEM L92 non-afm camshaft and LS7 lifters. Should last you another 15 or 20 years then. As you don't have the software to activate the AFM system, you won't need to tune it out. And sticking with the L92 OEM camshaft, it won't require any tuning for that either.

.....Or, keep shopping if you don't like working on engines 😲

Those are so uncommon and most don’t catch the early AFM in them.

That’s a low milage truck. The oil change history is the dealbreaker. Unlike the 2010+ AFM equipped L94, that L92 would be worth asking for one more discount on if you show them that TSB and tell them without service history, you can’t accept the risk without covering yourself.

This is the truck - Used 2007 CADILLAC ESCALADE For Sale at Ken Ganley Volkswagen Willoughby Hills | VIN: 1GYFK638X7R288683

The Carfax with service history - https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHisto...i1yucv6GJZ5UK4VzalNbc6q5Ztktll0kz8UxL2UOkSYOtVoh_E?_cl=CNwyqvDONfBpZTaQUrUeOJfc

The carfax is not super complete with oil changes, but the truck looks super clean and its a great price, or so it seems.
Not valid that some did not have the PCM software for DOD
GM does not design totally different PCM calibrations for each model, year, engine, etc
They use a boilerplate, template and turn software functions on or off in the calibration as needed

As example, I'm looking at a 2007 ESC 4x4 L92 engine you see that GM simply turned off DOD
so the OS has jump routines that than skip PCM controlling anything related to DOD

Image

As to the ESC you're looking to buy, the Carfax shows this has jumped around a lot in owners and shops and
the service records do not show if any, some or all GM software TSBs that when I query that VIN # to GM's database several TSBs assigned to that vehicle but on;y service updates would show if those updates were done

If you buy this 07 ESC have a GM service compare the below and do any of the PCM updates as defined below
I did not list, but also they show query and do all updates to all other controllers

This is as reported by GM for the VIN # you listed

Ohh, nice in black. Painted calipers? Can’t tell if front has the Brembo caliper upgrade or just paint. Brembo are a $2k aftermarket option. An enthusiasts vehicle. Later model GM rims it looks like. Clean light colored interior.

Brembo will look like this… a little bigger

If I were going to buy it I would engage on the risk of AFM without the benefits of it running (while presenting the TSB). Verify heated a/c seats work.

The 100k major service was never done. That means drain / fill front & rear differential, xfer case, trans, radiator flush, brake fluid flush.

If they won’t go down anymore request a 2-3 year service contract (S/C) and they foot the bill. Ally is a good one and owned by GM. Common problems the S/C covers are pan / rear main seal, trans, engine of course.

It’s the labor that’ll getcha, not the piddly parts. I got our S/C to cover over $14k on our 08 Denali which practically restored it.

The truck is beautiful and I’d say proceed if not rusty. As of last 60 days the new 2016 GM 10SP transmissions can be swapped into our trucks. It’s a big deal because a bad trans means upgrade to a 10SP for a drive like a new $100k Escalade.

That does look like a really good price for that. I'd definitely consider it, even with the AFM hardware to deal with. (I view that as a must do item ASAP) If I couldn't do it myself and had to pay a shop to do it, I'd probably walk.... Shop prices are insane these days. Definitely do as suggested above and try to get the price down or an extended warranty thrown in. It's worth trying.

And take flashlight and look under the front of the intake at the valley cover. If it's smooth and flat, you don't have the AFM hardware and scoop that thing up fast 😁
