I have heard that a lot of the initial problems that caused the reliability issues were worked out in the later years.
But the AFM (and to a lesser extent, the VVT) initially caused a LOT of the problems that people had with the 6.2.
Everything from malfunctioning valves for the inner four lifters, to malfunctioning and seizing lifters, to poor oil volume (and/or pressure) from the oil pump to either system.
I know it isn't what folks want to hear, but the best bet is to take one of these 6.2's, open it, inspect it, and at the least replace the valve pack, lifters, and the oil pump (or at least the pickup tube o-ring).
Doing that will be infinitely cheaper and MUCH less stressful than having to add the camshaft to the mix, and any other things that might need to be replaced after a malfunction.
