Hello all, we recently sold my wife's 2001 Seville STS and have been looking for another STS, we came across this Black 2005 STS V8 with just under 101k on it.
Went to look at the vehicle today and I was very pleasantly surprised by the vehicle, even though it is clearly the base V8 it was nearly as nicely turned out as her old fully loaded Seville. Needless to say, when we drove it, it was buttery smooth and went like a shot.
Even thought the car spent 2 years in Michigan and Pennsylvania there was negligible body rust and the brakes lines looked to be in good condition.
When I connected the OBD II reader this was the only code that showed up in the history:
05STS_OBDII.jpg

The car's history is two previous owners, one fender bender that damaged the left front fascia, a replaced starter and battery and all factory recalls taken care of. There is also a cone air filter (my guess is due to the fender bender it was cheaper than the factory box) and the Engine cover is Red (looks factory?), which I hadn't seen before.

Since the car needs new brake pads and a wash I was able to talk the dealer down to $7000 out the door, but before I pull the trigger I'm gonna take it to the local caddy dealership for an inspection and Engine diagnostic.

What do you guys think? Should I pull the trigger on this 05 STS for $7k or this 04 Seville SLS for $4.5k? Thanks folks.

Unless the tc light was on I wouldn't worry about it.

And FYI that sts has VERY rare gm accessory tail lamps. Don't damage them.

Nope, no annunciator lights of any kind that I saw on the 'spirited' test drive.

Okay, I had the local Caddy dealer put the 2005 STS 1SE up on a lift, looked at it, ran a Engine diagnostic. The car came back with front daytime running lights needing to be replaced, there is a little bit of oil "wicking" up an electrical wire through the camshaft actuators, possibly a dribble from the front of the camshaft cover, and one of the cats is giving reduced performance (not an issue since I won't need to do inspections). The Caddy dealer says $1979 for all of it, which has been helpful for price negotiations, as I am more of a DIY guy, within my limits.
The mechanic said it handled very well for an 05, and didn't seem to concerned about anything he found. I got the seller down to $6750 maybe less, what do you all think?

Did you take it to Hendrick? I have a poor opinion of them...
I live in Norfolk and do all my own work on my 05. I can go take a look at it if you're serious enough about it.

These cars vary a lot based on trim level & options. Most of these are not easy or cost-effective to retro-fit.

If you've driven some other differently-equipped STS's (not Seville's - a completely different car, I know., we had one, too) and this one is equipped the way you like, go for it.

If either of the above are false, I'd recommend you look around some more to be sure. But if you're in love, take it home. We love ours & have since '08.

----------

It will come up when a Cadillac Dealer replaces your cat's due to the right code.

Well I would LOVE to get a 1SG with a HUD or STS-V, but the car isn't for me, its for my wife who's initial requirements were, 4 wheels, 4 doors, ATX, heat, and A/C. She grew up in NorCal driving bland I4 ricemobiles, so she has fallen in love with the build quality and feature of our shortlived Seville STS. While I might be tempted to upgrade some interior features or the aux transmission cooler, she's happy with the 1SE trim.

Toys can be added if you have the talent for it.

Good deal, I'll have to try 1 or 2 of those if we had to pick up the car. Wish me luck in getting them down to 6500 or less

Do you all have any idea what this switch does? <img src="http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=290465"/>
Clearly aftermarket.

I suggest popping the panel and seeing where the wires go.

Maybe to a set of lights.

If you had nav I would say maybe a lock pick.

What explains why it wasn't in the manual, I will try to figure out where the hell that thing goes. And being from michigan, once I get it titled, the front plate covers coming off.
