Good evening all, my wife and I have looking to get her back into a Seville and we came across this 2004 Seville SLS with 68k miles on it.
We went to drive it today and it is beautiful shape, the engine bay is clean and quiet, it shifts smoothly and I could hear excess noise from the suspension or drive train.
The only PCM codes were history P1106 and P1574.
What do you all think, is there any thing else I should be looking at condition wise? Thanks.

have the dealer fix the existing codes -

this is a low-optioned SLS -
non-BOSE stereo -
no wood trim -
non-chrome wheels -
I'm guessing no CD changer -

**3-month unlimited mileage warranty
get that in writing -

take it for an extended test beat at highway speeds -
MAKE SURE P0741 does not appear -
that is a $2500 to $3000 trans repair -

couldn't see the brand of tires on it -

look for any rust under the car -
pay particular attention to the steel brake lines -

be sure all the Climate Controls function properly -

------------

the craigslist ad has it is listed as THUNDER GREY WITH GREY INTERIOR -
that is obviously incorrect -

this is light-bronzemist metallic with shale interior -

offer $4000 - "out-the-door" -
taxes - title transfer - license plates - etc -
settle on $4500 -

Re: Advice on a 04 Seville SLS with 68k

It's 11 years old. It's bound to have some rust.
If it's a local coastal Virginia car the chances of "rust" are pretty slim. 2004 ??? Go for it.

That Seville Seville Luxury Sedan was built in or before 12/2003. Driver's door sticker.

The real paint code is on the sticker under the spare tire cover - then take that to www.paintscratch.com

(I used to haunt a used vinyl record shop on Witchduck)

I agree with Sub, if the car was a local car it is very unlikely there will be any rust. Sounds like a pretty good buy, but put away about $1500. a year for maintenance and repairs. Not having all the extra equipment that comes on the STS is really a benefit because potential repair and maintenance costs are considerably lower on the SLS verses the STS.

Good luck finding a Bose stereo, 6 CD changer or wood trim on an SLS, very rare. At 68K that car should not have any rust issues. Looks like a nice clean car. Yes, lower repair costs than an STS, smoother ride and no sunroof to leak!

Most SLSs I've seen here for sale and in salvage yards have Bose and a sunroof, and about half have chrome wheels. Mileage isn't a factor when it comes to rust, only age, location, and how clean it was kept.

I found the opposite to be true -
particularly with the 04 Seville -
most were pretty loaded with options -

Thank you all for the quick replies, It does not have the Bose that our old STS had, but it does have the 6 cd changer and wood trim, with all ECS modes functioning. The only rust I have found on the body is at the hood latch point and it is minor, the under body looked good, but I didn't look at the tire brand, just the decent tread. I didn't look at the brake lines I will have to see about getting it on a lift to look under it. The dealer let us take it out for a nearly 45min test drive and I got her up to 80, very smooth and definitely no P0741 or P0743, that is what made us sell our 01 STS. For reference we were seeing ~1800rpm at 70mph. I was planning on going for $4000-4500 out the door, though I will wait and see how the 2005 N* STS handles before making the decision. Thank you all for the advice!

If you're concerned with handling at all, the RWD car will probably suit your needs better. An SLS is very much a comfy cruiser.

FWIW, all Sevilles have the wood trim on the dash. The extra wood trim package (like the STS would have) would have wood from front to back on all 4 doors (except for the panel around the door handles).

I actually wonder if there were 2 wood packages for SLSs. Twice now at the salvage yard, I've seen SLSs with the wood on the doors, but all leather wheel and leather knob. Is think if the owner added wood, it'd be the knob and wheel first. :noidea:

bass, Here's another variation on the available packages - zoom in and look at the right side of my STS window sticker - and mine does not have HID (thank God !) I had to look twice when I saw "wood trim".

The original owner, who I'm acquainted with, special ordered the car and it took 7 weeks to get it. (Staten Island, NY)

Ther are more packages than this:

My weird 02 SLS is only a 1SB but also has chrome wheels, park assist, sunroof and the STS apperance package (RPO?), strangely no Bose or extra wood trim.

My 02 STS is a 1SD, similar to Sub's above and only has 17" wheels, CD changer, extra wood, without TPMS or HIDs, but has no sunroof either.

I believe park assist became standard in 2001+ on the STS.

Nice looking car. I see some corrosion on one of the wheels (pic #9 in the listing on CL) but otherwise it *looks* nice. Don't be fooled by looks and follow everyone's advice here to get it inspected VERY carefully. I hope you have better luck than I did with my hunk o'junk 2003 STS. :)

Even with the wood trim package, SLSs did not have the wood all the way across the doors like the STS, they just had it in front of the door handles.

the options list I posted was for 2003 -
so I'm sure they changed "included" stuff around year to year -

yours has the "LUXURY PACKAGE" -
and it looks like you have everything on the car
that the "PREMIUM LUXURY PACKAGE" has -
except the HID's - :bonkers:

Thank you all for the info, it has been very helpful in working a decision, my wife loved her old Seville, though I'm hoping she will think that the STS is worth the extra couple grand.

The wheels don't concern me too much, though I did give the engine bay a good hard look for leaks, residue, ect. though I will have someone take a look at the suspension.
