There we were hanging out in Houston Tx for the weekend, heading down I-10 to a downloaded OnStar destination when we came upon a cruiser doing 10 under in the fastlane. Traffic was a little heavy, couldn't get around for a few minutes, and when I finally could I punched it and you all know how these V-2's react. The 6-lane was wide open and my best guess was 120mph+. The next thing I know the Nav voice comes on and says " PLEASE OBEY ALL TRAFFIC REGULATIONS". Whoa!!! My girlfriend and I looked at each other and started laughing out loud. What the F...? Nanny State in the Nav System!?! Interestingly enough, when I tried to re-create the same driving conditions later under Nav Guidance I couldn't get any reaction from the Nav Lady. But I had no idea the Nav system could monitor our speed. :nono:

Nevertheless, I love this car.

I had my voice command system "Nanny" me once. A guy swerved into my lane and as I avoided him I laid on the horn and cursed at him. I musta hit a button on the wheel and the car responded to my curses with "Improper Command". Made me laugh.

LOL. I have Navigon on my iPhone and it's uncanny how accurately it knows where the speed limit changes are. You can set different nanny thresholds for urban and rural. Maybe our nav has a nanny set for a certain threshold in an urban area or something?

Ha Haa! At least you're being entertained. Most of the time in my car, Wanda (my name for the nav voice) is either asleep on duty or busy mispronouncing street names.

If you love redlight cameras just wait until the government passes a law that requires OnStar to report these kinds of activities and you get a ticket in the mail. Did you see the video several months ago of the Hennessy car making a run at a dragstrip and the OnStar coming on and asking if everything was ok? Sorry but just a little bit too much intrusion into my personal driving habits. Or wait until your warranty is voided for "excessive abuse" because of your driving habits that they have on file. End of rant...... :)

Just thinking about that makes my blood boil. I do see it coming eventually since there are more and more red light cameras and now even speed cameras around. I think it's time to unplug the onstar box. Thank you big brother! :mad2:

Not for long! In every jurisdiction where speed and red light cameras have been put up for a referendum vote, the voters have voted to ban the cameras every time. And various states (FL being one, AZ another) have introduced legislation to ban speed and red light cameras. Contact your state reps and senators and push for a ban, or start a petition to put a referendum on the cameras on the next electoral ballot.

I accidentally left my turn signal on while driving on the freeway about a year ago. The DIC (not the NAV) displayed a message after about a mile of this, saying: "Please turn off your turn signal". I LOL'd (as I reached for the turn signal stalk :) ). I'm only 42 but I sure as hell felt 82 that day!
