a/c stopped after bottom wash

I just purchased an 04 ext, and the bottom was leaking oil and very nasty. I put it on ramps, sprayed it with gunk degreaser, then sprayed it with a hose, not power washer. That was last night. Now today I go to use it, and the a/c isn't working. It appears the compressor is kicking on and off every 20 seconds or so. it only stays on for 3 seconds. I can hear a little click at the fire wall area. Any chance I nocked something loose, or did I get a bad compressor, or leak Freon? For the 3 seconds it runs, it doesn't sound good.

before the washdown, it ran perfectly.

I can't see the gunk doing that. Was it heavy duty engine degreaser or regular engine degreaser? Ive done it a million times with the regular one. How long did you let it soak? Try spraying some wd40 when you turn it on maybe it's a little seized up due to the excess of water
are you saying spray the compressor down? Would I have to be carefull with it, or just soak it? It was heavy duty degreaser. I just got this last week, and I wouldn't put it past the guy I got it from to charge it up to sell it. But it did work good until yesterday.
I can easily turn the clutch by hand, I sprayed it down without any difference. I guess it doesn't sound too bad, I am getting the compressor turning on, then immediately off, the 20 seconds off.
Sounds like it is either too low or too high charge

I would guess it's too high charge given how it's doing
That was my next thing check the freon. Check connectors clean them if possible
I just pulled the plug of the cycling switch and jumped it. The compressor ran fine, the one line from the dryer was cold, other one hot, but no cold air in the truck. I think I might just be low on Freon.

Get to a shop and have the freon level checked asap
There is a low pressure and a high pressure switch if either detects abnormal pressure levels they will disable the compressor

Jumping stuff on the a/c is risky as it can cause other problems and believe me any parts that would have to be replaced won't be cheap(I speak from experience)
Sounds like its low on gas. The system failure during this time I'm betting is just a coincidence. More often than not short cycle is indication of low freon.

I suspected low gas first, I just wanted to rule out any sensors or simple stuff that might have gotten wet, or broke. I will check it out today and let you know.
I just got back from the mechanic. He said my clutch fan is shot, making my head pressure go through the roof which would make all the gas escape through a valve in the compressor. Its still there while he puts a new fan in, all told, new fan, new a/c gas, test dye, and all the labor, $222 including tax.
Sounds good and a good price.hope it works out
Not a bad price
I also have to replace my fan clutch as its sticking in the engaged mode half the time
Picked it up, and so far so good. The black light cant find anything leaking but he said if it starts getting warm, he will search for the leak no charge. He showed me the fan clutch, and there was not much resistance at all.

No leaks is a good sign

The fan clutch is cheap compared to ac work so get it done asap

Don't forget the belts and tensioners while your at it(I almost had mine snap once because I didn't know they were needing replacing)
I should have been clearer. When I said I picked it up, I meant the work was already done. He said my belt was good, didn't ask about the tensioner.

Ah I see

I would have got the tensioner done while I was at it as they are cheap
Strange the high pressure switch didn't shut the compressor down.

I also find it odd
