a/c compressor

dash board is showing "very low refrigerant level, a/c compressor off" we tried adding refrigerant but because compressor is off it won't let me. Is there a way to reset the compressor? This is a 1997 Deville Concours

Enter the onboard diagnostics and clear the DTC's. That will enable the compressor.

Do what Ranger said. Then while u are adding refrigerant, the compressor will come on/off a lot. It won't stay on totally until the refrigerant is full. I thought my car was broke because the A/C wouldn't stay on at first until I figured it out.

if you dont know how to clear the codes then disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 seconds the start the car and recharge.....

Disconnecting the battery will clear the DTC's, but will add some "U" codes.
