Checked blower connector with digital voltmeter.I have voltage changes as I toggle the speed control on the climate control. Looks like blower is TKO. After following the many posts on this it appears that relacement is expensive(dealer labour) or difficult (DIY). I have been able to remove all the screws. I was thinking that I could make two cuts from the firewall down to the top of the blower and lift it up and out. Then use a metal mending plate secured to the top of the blower housing I cut out and then secured to the left and right of the cuts spanning the cut section. Is this crazy :wacky: or are there things in in the underside of the housing above the blower that I might damage. Also I think this motor may have brushes and may be repairable, any thoughts. I have made brushes out of D cell battery electrodes in the past, messy but very effective in a pinch. :bonkers:

The new blower motor replacement has a heat shield that protects it from that and ESD. You can get one (AcDelco) for ~$200. The only thing you need to do on the Eldo, is to tilt the engine forward a few inches. You can purchase a ~30 Lisle Engine Tilter, or get a turnbuckle at a hardware store. basically you put it in lieu of the torque strut, and copress it, effectively giving you clearance.

I would not cut the black housing.

I replaced the blower myself, just make sure you don't compress the squirrel cage too much, or you will pay for it.
