Greetings everyone, I joined the list a few days back. I just bought a 99 STS with 39K miles.

I have noticed a few qwirks...

1 sounds like under the dash or maybe even under the hood there is a rattle that seems to have a distinctive plastic sound to it. Another rattle I have is the right rear right under the package tray.

Are these common rattles?

Another thing I noticed is sometimes the Bose radio "forgets" its tone settings.

Thanks for all your help

Vinny

Vinny,
It was explained to me the Bose system can be a bit of a challange. (I have a 2002.) I believe every pre-set has to be saved with your preferred tone settings for that station, and as you probably know Driver 1 and 2 each have distinctive settings.

Rattles aren't uncommon - the older the car, the morel likely they are. Sun, temperature fluctuations, rough roads, panel removal/replacement, etc...all this leads to rattles. Generally, they can be isolated and addressed as long as you have patience and proceed with some common sense.

The interior color of your car was called oatmeal.

Your station presets are going to be tied to driver 1 and 2 memory presets, which will also correlate to the #1 and #2 key fobs. Once you have all of your stations selected, eq set to your taste, driver seat and lumbar position, steering wheel position, side mirrors position, press memory set and then the 1 or 2 button accordingly. Moving forward, your stations will be tailored to whatever key fob is used to unlock the car.

I have had rattles from rear headrests and just moving them stopped it for a long time till I had to move them again. In addition the panels on the sides of the rear package tray can also rattle especially if it's been driven fast with the windows open. You may be able to stuff some foam or insulation in there. Good luck. Rattles suck.

Nice clean STS!

No rattles on mine after thousands of abusive miles, but am plagued by the treble wanting to be reset from time to time, despite following the procedures described above. Only a minor irritation.

Terrific car, best combination of power, handling, comfort, reliability that I have found for the money.

Check the oil, many burn a quart per thousand miles. Not a problem, only a feature!

Thanks everyone!

Oatmeal, hmmm makes me hungry!

I know about the oil consumption, I use to lease a 98 ETC.

I will be checking the rear headrests, undewr the dash, under the package tray. for them rattles.

I always wanted a STS, but ended up leasing that ETC because GMAC offered a better lease package on it.

I paid a little more than I wanted to, but thus far I am happy.

The radio seems fine now as well.

Anyone know if I can get a window sticker print out on my car?

Thanks

Vinny

ps included is a pic of my other toy
