Guys and Gals,

I have a few questions for any other 99STS owners out there;

1. What kind of mileage are you seeing? I drive 9 miles each way to work, on a State road, with no highway driving. I'm averaging about 19MPG, and wanted to know what others were seeing.

2. What kind of feul are you using? I've been putting in the 87 Octane cheap stuff, and want to know how many are biting the gas bullet to go with higher octane. If you are, do you notice a difference. My performance has been pretty good, except for the rare occasion when I stomp on the peddle, and get a slight hesitation.

3. Does anyone else have the driver's side massaging seat? (you can somewhat see the remove down by the driver's side seat controls in one of the pics below) If so, have you ever had any problems with it? If you have, what were the repair costs like?

I would be greatly appreciative if there is anyone out there who can shed some light on these questions. Hope y'all are doing well.

Hey Piper,
I have a 99 SLS, not that much of a difference between the two but...

As far as mileage, I get about 24/gallon or so. I use the premium gas, whatever the octane is, I think it's 93. I try to stick to just Mobil gas in my baby. I'm in the Hudson Valley in NY and I'm paying $3.14 a gallon right now which I would rather do. When I bought the car, the dealership must have filled it up with the cheap stuff and I hated how it ran, so I took it right to special and eased my way into premium, ever since then, I only use premium. I feel that it runs unbelievable especially when I do some WOT's once in a while
to clean her pipes. Just don't try to burn rubber too much...
. I don't have the massager so you've got me there. Hope this helps a little.

19MPG??? I wish! I get about 13-13.something and I drive about 35-40 MPH on the streets.

I run Shell V-Power premium. I think it's Octane 91 or 92. I'm not sure. The previous owner put premium octane in it and my manual says to use the premium only fuel, so that's why I use it as well. I don't know how it feels to run the cheap octane because I never used it.

I have the heated seats with lumbar only. I don't have the adaptive 10 minute-cycle 'massaging' seats.

I haven't had any problems with the lumbars. However, my heated driver seat stop working recently and now all it makes is a ticking sound when I turn it on. Hopefully, I'll have it fixed before the cold weather arrives.

We have covered the fuel requirements for the pre-2000 northstars plenty of times, the general consensus is regular is fine, search for more info.

Your MPG varies with how much stop&go driving you do and how much pedal you put down during the GO part. 19 sounds OK.

Nice car BTW.

Thanks, guys. Sounds like I'm about middle of the road on the mileage, so that's good. STSonly, your heater issue sounds like a solid state relay. Not sure where that's located...probably in the door somewhere. Should be a project you can do yourself without too much trouble. You'll want to get it taken care of soon, though. I had a SSR catch on fire once in another car. I let it go too long, and it must have sparked. Took awhile to get the smoke smell out of the seats.

I tried going both ways on my 99 STS with the fuel, now we only use 91 or better, it definitely runs better. I could tell last month when my wife used 87 within the first couple of miles. The performance wasn't there. But I got the car back in 1999 and gas is my only expense now. I test drove one with the massage feature, but it was not as nice as the one I eventually bought so I can't help with that feature.
