Re: 99 cadillacs struts

Welcome to CF !!! :highfive:

Anniversary Edition - Base Deville, DHS or DTS ? - because the spring/strut/shock package is different for several models. Under the spare tire cover is the RPO (Regular Production Option) sticker. In that mess of codes there will be one, two, or three that look like FE1, FE3, F45 or similar. Please post what F-codes you have.

Poor struts/springs would cause the front end (engine cradle) to bottom out. Poor shocks/springs/level control would cause the rear to bottom out.

Your rear shocks (normal hydraulic shocks) incorporate air bladders, a compressor and height sensor(s) to compensate for extra weight in the trunk or rear seat - that system is NOT "air ride" - it's Level Control and will cause the tail to drag with weak springs.
I have FE1, FE9, FV3 codes
Re: 99 cadillacs struts

OK - You have the inactive, passive suspension with "soft" springs. If you are the DIY type, new struts, shocks, and springs can be found in the RockAuto site, www.nalleygmc.com, or through a NAPA store.

Otherwise, any good local Mom&Pop shop can replace any of the necessary parts. A GM dealership - Cadillac especially - will kill you on labor rates.

FE1 - soft ride
FE9 - emissions level
FV3 - 3.11:1 economy final drive ratio

To decipher the rest of your RPO list, Google "cadillac 1999 rpo codes".

------------------------------
for struts - I recommend
MONROE 30142 - $65 for the pair including shipping -
rockauto.com has the best price -

for springs -
I would recommend measuring ride-height first -
to determine whether or not you do need springs -
HOWEVER -
new springs are cheap -
and there would be no additional labor involved -

I recommend MOOG 81086 - $61 - for the pair - including shipping -

So the people I'm tryna get the part from are askin if I have air brakes. And is it the struts I need replaced? Should I get them offer website you recommended to me?
Air brakes?? No, it's not a Mack truck. Whoever you're thinking of buying them from have no clue what they're talking about.
I'd go after parts from amazon like basscat was pasting. If it's sagging and hitting chances are good the springs are worn too and for the price just change them.
