I have a 99 Deville and for years the temp. never got above 196 degrees, it mows gets up to 227-230 degrees. A couple of months ago the add coolant light came on. I added coolant and about 3 weeks ago it started running hot. It smells hot as well. I can find no leaks the fans do turn on and run, I do not see any colapsed hoses. I was worried about the head gaskets but there is no evidence of water in the oil. Any ideas? I do not want to waste money on repairs that are not needed. The engines has 98,000 mile and run strong.

Northstars rarely put coolant in the oil when a head gasket goes. Cylinder pressure test is the way to be sure.
