Now that I find there is no cabin air filter in the 99, I am trying to figure where and how the outside air and the deflector door is. Recirculating air switch lights when pressed but air flow seems the same. When outside air is on there seems to be no positive pressure entering the car. Crack a window and my cigar smoke just wanders around in cabin. Heat and cooling is just fine.

Outside air enters the system through body holes at the base of the windshield - under the black plastic trim/screen surrounding the wiper mechanisms.

There will never be positive pressure in the car: there are 2 flapper vents from the trunk into the rear fenderwells which constantly bleed air back to the outside. It's part of the "Flow Through" system.

RECIRC works fully, partially, or not at all depending on the HVAC duct and temp settings. You MAY hear it work over a period of 20 seconds or so. This is not the old flapper that slammed shut and the noise in the airbox changed radically. Whole different critter. I thought mine was dead, too - until I read the owner's manual and the shop manual.

If you want to remove cigar smoke, set the HVAC to floor/windshield, A/C OFF, RECIRC OFF, blower on 1 or 2 bars, and crack the rear windows about 3".

:yeah:
That'll suck it out when moving like a vacuum cleaner.

Not sure you have a problem. If you have air flow from whatever vent you have selected (defrost, vent or floor) then all is well.

I have often wondered about this myself...

when you say 'set HVAC to floor/windshield' which button is that? my digital dash hvac controls don't really make that all that clear

the only way i can put air on the windshield is with either defog or the defrost buttons... not sure if that will also go to the feet

My Seville, and other models, has a set of fluorescent icons in the HVAC control panel at the MODE position. Arrows indicate floor and dash vent operation, and a windshield icon (the one with the squiggly arrows on the windshield) indicates windshield vents. You can select several vent combinations. DEFROST (A/C) does not work until you press the additional DEFROST button with the windshield icon on it...............soooooo, if you desire, you can direct cool or warm air at the windshield without running the compressor. Even with the A/C button in OFF, when you press the DEFROST button, on comes the compressor and MODE shifts to floor/windshield.

Thanks guys, I should have metioned my DeVille has the digital controls. Therefore limited as to where to direct the airflow as it is mostly all automatic. The exausting out through the trunk makes sense. Looks like my rear passengers may see cigar smoke crusing by them. Maybe I can restrict some of the exausting of the trunk and let the window handle some.
I know! ( Don't smoke)
