Monroe road sensing rear struts are still available, but at $722/ea. list, I'd like to go with a passive strut, but I can't find one in Monroe. What's out there?

Depends on which form of suspension your car has, but RockAuto lists rear shocks (not struts, BTW.....) for your car at about $370 each. Check the RPO sticker under the spare tire lid for the suspension option code. The site for RPO code checking is posted a million times.

Why passives? Is your air compressor shot? If you can 'live' with air shocks:

Arnott $217 for the pair... (I have these on my 98 Eldo, no complaints)

As for passives:

Strutmasters $277-397 for the pair depending on what stuff you want with it...

I still don't get it - why install passives? It's a Caddy, right? When my Northstar engine needed the HG repair, I didn't replace it with a Pinto engine, I fixed the Northstar. At 150K, I still have my originals; I do believe that, considering the cost of new active struts and shock, I would consider buying used for a much lower price.
