Hello everyone, currently the car is throwing 2 codes
TCS C1241 - Variable Effort Steering Circuit Malfunction
ACM B1312 - High Side Temperature Sensor Open Circuit

I know the B1312 is probably just a bad sensor that needs to be replaced.

Does anyone know what to do to get the C1241 code to be cleared. I have looked through the forums and found a little bit of information but nothing really conclusive. Does anyone know if it's a certain part that needs to be replaced before the code will clear or is there a way to bypass something to make the code clear.

does anyone know what the sensor is called that ties to the code called?

Edit: Checked over the Haynes manual a little bit. Don't see anything on how to fix the code in there (could of missed something).
Is there a way to bypass the coil to make the service steering system clear from the dash?

Which Deville do you drive - a base model, DHS, Concours, or DTS ? It makes a difference in parts and advice.

Use the pages in the Haynes to mop up oil spills - far, far too generic. Subscribe the car to the original Cadillac/GM/Helm service manuals on www.aldatadiy.com. On the main page for your car there will be a drop down menu on the left side. The top link is "All DTCs" - Diagnostic Trouble Codes. Scroll to your C 1241 - that link gives you the code, diagnostic tree, system description, how to fix it.

Thanks for the link, Ill check the aldata in a bit. It's a base model 98 Deville, I had taken it to the dealership years ago to see what the problem was I think the said the magnasteer was messed up? I would have to see if I can find the paper they gave me with the info. They said it would cost upwards of 2k to fix the issue I assume they were going to replace the steering column which I don't really want to do if that is the issue. I would rather just bypass if I can to get the warning to clear since I don't notice any real driving difference from before the code came on to now that it is active. Mostly just an eyesore to see it always on the dash..

I had this code TCS C1241 "Magnasteer Circuit Malfunction" on my 1998 Deville Concours for the longest time, I could not find much on it either. What I did find was to try to reseat some plug on the steering rack (never found the plug), they also said you can test the sensor with an ohm meter as I recall. Anyway I never did that, just drove it for a year or two and then got a C1255 (EBTCM malfunction) now not only did the magnasteer not work but it also started out in 2nd gear. Interesting enough the C1241 went away when the C1255 showed up. Everything I could find (including a trip to the Cadillac Dealer) said to replace the EBTCM. I finally did that just today and no more codes, Magnasteer and first gear started working again . I only have about 10 miles on it since replacement but my suggestion is try replacing the EBTCM (or I guess its just EBCM for the regular Deville), I got mine used from Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market) for $35.00 plus shipping (so far it has been just plug and play, no programing).

If you are not familiar with the EBCM it has 4 small torx bolts and one larger torx bolt that doubles as a mount holding it onto the antilock brake pump. Its kind of a pain to replace because of space but I was able to do it in an hour or two (no need to mess with the hydraulics so no brake bleeding. You will probably have to remove the bottom splash shield if yours is still in place (mine has been removed for a while).
