I pulled engine to do head gaskets and inserts. it took some time for me to get it back together due to time and cash. once i got it running again its having problems steering left. it came on slow but now is a pain in the butt and its the wifes car. my question is. could there be a sensor bad or is it going to be the rack. sometimes you can give it throttle and it will help but problem is still noticeable. thanks tim

Does the car have the Magnasteer or Variable Effort steering?
The Magnasteer has a electromagnet on the input shaft.

Variable Effort has a motor driven flow valve on the input shaft.

There is a pressure sender on the high pressure line near the tailshaft of the transmission. I don't think it does anything but indicate pressure. The traction control operate the both types of variable assist.

What are the Symptoms?

Update your profile with model and year. Without knowing what is the car it is hard to say anything.

Update: oops, I didn't see the title of the thread.... However it is better to update the profile too...

If it is fine turning one direction I would look in the direction of the steering wheel sensor on the column, connections & wiring. The at the input shaft valve or magnet on either system is only working 1 way.

They both varible effort & the magnasteer do the same things just in different ways. They are part of the CVRSS system so many other areas could be causing this problem.

If the rack i good working order before I would make sure connections are good. Maybe a wire got damaged or something, it should display a code.

Any codes?

You can look in the trunk for the RPO code list on the spare tire cover, or run the vin# in the RPO guide at the compnine website link in the sticky

NV7= Variable Effort

NV8= Magnasteer
