My '97 De Ville needs struts. How do I tell if it has the more expensive "Road Sense" front struts? There is a wire and electrical connector on them. Will the less expensive non-"Road Sense" struts interchange?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Unless it's a Concours shouldn't have Electronic struts. Do you have RSS fuses in the trunk? Many have used passive struts in place of the insanely expensive electronic struts. Go up to DeVille foruma and poke around, always a few threads on swapping and the resistors needed to make the service suspension msg go away when you do.

Also, under the spare tire cover there is a RPO (Regular Production Option) code sticker. Those codes tell you what is built into THAT car. Use a Google search for "1997 cadillac deville rpo code definitions" or something close.

If your suspension is the soft ride passive type the only suspension code will be FE1 - soft springs. If the system is active (RSS or CVRSS) the codes will be F45 and FE3 - active suspension, sport springs.

Study the Acronyms sticky on the main Deville threads page.
