My problems began with the low coolant light and coolant kept leaking after continuous refilling. Took it to the mechanic; diagnosis was it needed a water pump, housing, belt tensioner and cam pulley. $700 and 2 days later, the oil light flashes with the new very rough idle of the car and it is overheating when sitting in traffic. It also does not want to start even when it is not cold. It also has a slight exhaust smell. Can someone please help me? I'm a single broke mom with two teenage kids and am going thru a divorce. I need this car desperately for my three jobs!! I have read advice for others on other forums and pray that someone can direct me to the best solution.

Re: 97 Cadillac Seville

:welcome:

Why does every mechanic want to throw a water pump at an overheat problem? :banghead: Was the tensioner pulley seized or making noise? Was the water pump housing AKA crossover manifold leaking?

What does that exhaust smell like? Coolant?

The oil light may just be a bad oil pressure switch.

That would suck to R&R the coolant pump for no results. You may want to quit supporting that mechanic.

You should see if there are any DTC codes stored in the PCM. This you can do from the driver seat using this link-http://myweb.accessus.net/~090/dtcobd2.html, Search that site & you will also find the code definitions list. The overheating issue may be related to the poor running, but codes may be another problem.

My hard/cold starting was cured with a oil pressure switch.
