Searching for a used Deville and want to be sure to get one with Stabilitrak. I know it is standard on the Concours version, how can I tell if this option exists on the Base and D'Elegance models? Is there a button on the dash, a control unit in the engine bay or a VIN code I can check for this?

Thanks in advance.

I'm a little confused. I found this link which describes the 1999 Deville model year options and it shows that Stabilitrak is an option on the Base and D'Elegance models and is standard feature on the Concours version.

Here's the link:

Just noticed that there are details for the 1998 model year and in that year Stabilitrak was only available on the Concours edition.

So, I still have the problem - how to tell if a '99 model year Base or D'Elegance has the Stabilitrak option?

Thanks for the feedback.

Andrew, the Stabilitrak option became standard on all models of Devilles in 98, there were quite a few that had it in 97. There are however two types for the Deville, one is for the Deville with CVRSS and one without. The option for brakes would show as ABS/TCS/ICCS2 or ICCS3. The Seville had a different type which was called Stabilitrak 2. If you want to confirm on a 97 if it has it, look between the rear speakers on the parcel shelf, you will find another sensor there, its called a yaw sensor, there is also one on the steering column. There was no way to switch them off as it was so intergrated into the ABS mother system. If you turned off the Traction control you would then have only second gear starts, they did not change this until mid 2000's. I think someone came up with a fix.

RPO code JL4 is "Active Brake Control". Combined with code JL9 " 4 wheel disc antilock brakes" you have Stabilitrack. Of course, you could just go out and drive it so hard it fishtails and if it has Stabilitrack it will kick in and give you a message on the dash. I didn't know I had it until I slid on Ice and it kicked in and gave me the message on my dash.

Caddyshack100:

I will plan to check the rear deck for the yaw sensor to see if it has the feature. Also good to know that virtually all of the Devilles 1998 and later had it.

Carseller:

Thanks for the insights on the RPO - I know these are option codes - is there a sticker somewhere on the car listing all the RPO's for that vehicle? If so, that would make confirmation for this feature very straightforward.

This car will be for my wife and want to make sure it has all the available safety features. Thank you both for the great info!

It's under the spare tire cover.

Andrew,on the Deville it will be UNDER the spare tire cover, in fact it might be a good idea if you wrote them all down and put them somewhere for later reference. When you look them up, it will tell alot of other things as well, Stereo etc. By the way for the years of Deville that you mentioned, there are no Bose options, just the great 6 speaker system and the even greater 11 speaker. Happy hunting
