Hey Guys,

I've got a question. Maybe this is a common thing I don't know about? But my trunk light keeps blowing out all of a sudden. It was fine until a couple weeks ago when I noticed one night the light did not come on. I replaced the bulb and it was working ok. I opened and closed the trunk a few times and it worked fine. A few nights later, I popped the trunk and it was blown out again... So that's 3 bulbs within a month's time.

I don't even know where to begin to look.

Any suggestions?

That's a first. Dumb question but are you SURE the bulb was bad? The sockets are quite often what goes bad on those. Beyond that, it's a pretty simple rig, cheap bulbs maybe?
Well, the first bulb was obviously blown (and most likely the original). Second bulb was a 194 I had in the toolbox (not the correct size, but fir in the socket). The third was a replacement from Autozone, I think it was a GE...

It could be the socket. Is there a way to test it? The bulb still snaps in nice and tight.

I also wired in a toggle switch so I could shut off the trunk light with the trunk open at car shows (that's the only bulb that doesn't go off when the 'old lady protection' kicks in and all lights go out after a certain time limit). I could try to bypass the switch. But it was working ok when each bulb was replaced...
