That's right, coming home from dinner with my g/f and her family, an old VW Minibus (the hippie bus) wanted to play... He revved at a riced out accord next to him. I was behind him. I revved and he looked a little surprised by me. Rev for an accord, and hear a V8 behind you. :) Well light turned green, and he kinda took off, (I think that may have been all it had, but who knows) So I muscled up behind, and then moved next to him and punched it. I was gone, but he was fighting to keep up actually. I slowed down, he came up, that little vw motor working hard, he'd rev as he went by, and I'd hit it again, but traffic kept anything serious from happening. When I went to make my turn, he waved and had a big grin on his face, I honked, waved, was grinning. It was just funny, and probably startling for other drives. VW Bus chasing after a big Caddy, the 2 racing down the road... My plate cover that says "Aint your Grampa's Caddy" wrapped around 1HOT CAD plate, and his VW bus with the sticker in the back window that said "Fukengruven" Was I high? :)

Not joking, I thought it was so funny to see a Minibus causing trouble, I couldn't turn it down. Even if you think your car is royally outclassed, or royally outclasses the other guy, it can still be fun for both people. You get to see or feel a powerful car run, and the amusement is always there.

If it beat me, I'd wonder what was done. Or blame it on traffic. :) Talking to someone who lost to a Pinto once... Granted, it had a big block stuffed in the back (yes, the back, it was 2 ngine, 4wd) He had the stock motor in front, tuned down even more for economy, but torqued up some to pull the car. In back was a built big block chevy, driving the rear wheels. It ran 10's.

There is a decent aftermarket for the VW flat fours I believe, so it probably wasn't stock. Especially since it was fighting to keep up.

It would be fun to stick a 500/TH425 in the back of one of those, they're pretty light and it would haul ass.

It wasn't a close race, but neither would a Ferrari 360 vs my Fleetwood be, but I've beaten one across an intersection before. :p Then he ran me down and left me standing there in a pool of my own... well, thats not important. :p

We have a '56 Bug at the shop that has a WRX motor.

And I saw a mid-'60's bus two nights ago that still had the white shoe polish from his trip to the drags. 13.59 was his time.

And then there was the time I was driving a borrowed Ferrari 308 and got spanked by a VW Fastback powered by a 911.

What's the top speed for a minbus, 60-70? I guess it would make the best sleeper if you stuffed a bigger engine in there. I don't know why but I just don't like vws, the though of hopping up something like that makes me cringe.
