I have 96 etc with 256k miles,leaking 3 qts. a day.the cover is off,i have a w/p socket.the socket is turning w/p but not coming out. how can you search all posts on a subject?

Use the search button right above post #1.

The socket should only turn about 1/8 turn to unlock it and then it pulls out. If it's turning more than that, it's probably not locked into the pump cartridge.

update---helms manual says''turn clockwise to take out w/p" this wrong.the slots on w/p open on the right side.

The GM/Helm manual is absolutely correct. You lock the water pump socket into the tangs on the pump capsule, apply about 80 ft/lb of force, clockwise, and the capsule unlocks in about 1/5 turn.

To replace the capsule you lubricate the capsule O-ring with pure coolant, properly orient the new capsule tangs (one is different), and lock it back into the housing counterclockwise to 73 ft/lb.
