Has anybody replaced there steering rack yet on there etc?I have a 96 etc eldo,i need a rack,i am wondering where i can get the best price on a reman rack?

I just replaced the rack on my 89 eldo... I only use GM delco parts in my cars... you can go to www.newgmparts.com
they have the best prices on GM parts .. they are a GM dealership in Hyannis, Mass. call them and they will give you a price.. or you can search it on their website

What give you the impression that your rack is no good? I'm wondering about mine lately. What are the tell tale signs?

hey saw this on ebay thought it may help it says its for a vin Y motor which means the base northstar (ESC) but i dont kno what the difference is with the steering on the two motors. Maybe this will work thought id pitch it to ya anyways and right now its dirt cheep may be worth a shot

I think the only diiference was between steering is magnasteer which was an option i think in 96 and became standard in 97 not sure tho im sure if you email the seller they can tell you of this can work with your 96 etc goodluck

I was told by a mechanic that i had a bad rack.I replaced my struts,bearing plates,and removed the sway bar,and i still have the clunking sound like many other owners have on there etc's.The mechanic said i have play in the rack,he showed me the clunking in the front end,the car was on the ground,he grabbed the front wheel,he was able to make it clunk by grabbing it at 9 and 3 on the wheel.It was not the tie rod ends he was hoping for,but he said it was the rack,yikesssssss.So i have to buy a rack now.

I am trying to figure out if i have the magesteer in my car.I bought the car used,so im not sure whats in it,with my luck,i probllay have it.I have the build sheet from the trunk,i could probllay go to a local dealer and ask them.

yea thatd be your best bet you should ask check with the guy and see if thats what the difference between the two are it may be more than just magnasteer. My 97 ETC has Magnesteer and Stabilitrak

Hi,when i turn the wheel side to side,i get the clunking noise too.I can grab my tire and wobble it side to side and dupilcate the noise too.I am pretty sure i have the magnasteer and stablitrak,i have disabled the stabiltrak by using passive stuts.I can ride down a smooth road,no clunking,then the slightest bump i have th noise.

How many miles on the clock? What was the primary area the car was driven, for example city, rural, highway?

the car was a city car half of it's life,then it was in fla.It has about 127,000 on the clock
