Need help parasitic drain 96 eldorado (WIRE DIAGRAM NEEDED)

I have a 96 eldorado that's draining 120 mili amps with everything off (trunk open or closed)
I pulled all fuses and relays ,when I pull the 30 amp BATT fuse under hood (BIG FUSE) it drops to 25 mili amps

Need help finding out whats circuit is on that fuse or help finding a diagram

The car charges just fine battery new ,alternator charging 14.2 volts
If I let car sit for a day battery is dead.

I also disconnected negative cable from battery and the battery holds a charge (wouldn't that mean the alternator is ok )

THANKS

Re: Need help parasitic drain 96 eldorado (WIRE DIAGRAM NEEDED)

it could be the alternator -
in the alternator is a diode - it acts as a one-way "vlave" for elecrticity -
if the diode burns out -
power can be pulled through the alternator when it is not spinning -

to test this - put the main battery fuse back in -
disconnect the alternator - see if you get the same big drop -

bench testing the alternator will also show a burned out diode -

Re: Need help parasitic drain 96 eldorado (WIRE DIAGRAM NEEDED)

I disconnected alternator both the battery wire and harness still getting 120 mili amp draw
I also disconnected all fuses related to BATT 2 fuse under the hood got same result

Is it possible that the PCM is staying on (I also disconnected those fuses got same result)
If so where is the PCM located

have you tries pulling codes?
if you don't know how - go here and read the ENTIRE post -

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-deville-1985-2005-including-1985/138257-how-pull-codes-dtcs.html

if you have any codes - post them here -
ALONG WITH THEIR DEFINITIONS -
---------------------

the Owners Manual actually does a fairly descent job
of listing the fuses and circuits starting on page 6-55 -

if you don't have the Owners Manual - or would like a copy for your computer -
follow this link for a free downloadable copy -

Re: Need help parasitic drain 96 eldorado (WIRE DIAGRAM NEEDED)

The car doesn't have any codes just hooked up scanner

I also pulled the fuses related to the BATT 2 fuse under the hood and looked at owners manual and pulled each one of those fuses and relays that's "suppposed" to be on the BATT 2 circuit still no luck.

Most of the components related to BATT 2 fuse (injector 1&2 fuse,crank fuse,park neutral position switch fuse,dis-fuse) wouldn't these require the ignition to be on to drain battery (all fuses ok)
car runs just fine

It looks like I might have to get raped on this one

I can see the repair shop now 500$ to diagnose loose wire or bad switch

Re: Need help parasitic drain 96 eldorado (WIRE DIAGRAM NEEDED)

Any other suggestions?
I forgot to add the trunk release button in the car don't work (fuel door does) trunk open and closes fine (motor and switch working )THE VALET SWITCH IS OFF

I didn't check the relays in the trunk behind the back seat thought pulling fuses would cut power to the relays (don't have a fsm)

Is it it possible that the trunk release relay is stuck on draining the battery ( I know this is not on the BATT 2 fuse ) open to anything at this point

Post #4. Use the car's built-in scanner system and see if that has set a History code for some system.

Use this to decipher all codes found, then write it all down and post it all here - codes, suffixes (C or H), and definition. (read all the links on the page, too................)

Re: Need help parasitic drain 96 eldorado (WIRE DIAGRAM NEEDED)

I pulled the codes (let me add the service engine light was not on BEFORE) and I accidently crank the car without fuses and alternator connected.

I will reset codes later once I find out what they mean.

I proballly caused most of these codes

current-IP910 current-ac130 history-ac225 history pc0603
current-IP1552 current pz2042 history-ip2710 current -pz2042

Still trying to figure out what these codes mean from the flow chart. These codes (DIDN'T )exist before I pulled fuses and relays and cranked the car .No service engine light was on ,every once and awhile service ride control would pop up

I ordered a service manual online pdf format (all pages say gm ), but some of the wire diagrams says 98 eldorado does anyone know if the schematic as far as starting and charging would be the same as a 96.

Looking at the diagram looks like my current draw should be the ignition switch or park neutral switch causing the load all the other components are fused

I get the same 120 milli amp draw disconnecting everything except BATT 2 fuse that's when it drops to 15-25 mili amps

I posted diagram here

Re: Need help parasitic drain 96 eldorado (WIRE DIAGRAM NEEDED)

I did some translating I substituted IP -PZ AND AC =FOR BODY CODES

Keep in I cranked the car without fuses and alternator connected by (mistake)

I will reset and see if one comes back

IP910=GENERATOR L TERMINAL OPEN CIRCUIT
PC063=CONTROL MOD MEMORY LONG TERM RESET
IP1552=KEEP ALIVE MEMORY
IP2710=PASS KEY OPEN SHORTED PELLET
AC130=AMBIENT AIR TEMP SENSOR FAIL
PZ1558=BCM EPROM CHECKSUM ERROR
PZ2042=LOSS OF ABS/TC SERIAL DATA
AC225=? HAS TO BE AC RELATED AC AND HEATER WORKS FINE NO ERRORS

Do NOT substitue anything for anything. Caddilac has a VERY specific style of codes that will get you every bit of information that you need, but you must follow some simple procedures to get the answers you are looking for.

Once you have those things done, we can lead you to the correct answer.

Re: Need help parasitic drain 96 eldorado (WIRE DIAGRAM NEEDED)

Check connections at PZM(BCM) and related grounds. Sounds to me like PZM is the problem, but could still be diode bad as Bass has suggested. Since the PZM controls RAP and a bunch of other things, if it is not sending turn off signals to those it would drain battery rather quickly. You could unhook the PZM and see if draw goes away.

Im trying to track down a parasitic drain on my car 120 MILI AMP
I have disconnected the bcm , alternator, all fuses and relays

The drain goes away when BATT 2 fuse under hood is pulled .
Im working my way to the ignition switch when I look under the dash there is a small black box flashing red and green lights it's in a tight spot.It has two wires going to it and a small harness connector
I don't know what it is don't know if it's aftermarket are not

When I pull the BATT 2 FUSE the box stops flashing lights

Need help identifying this part

Re: 96 eldorado black box under steering column flashing lights

Aftermarket security or remote start ??? Do the wires and connectors/wire junctions look EXACTLY like the rest of the car's factory wiring ?

Your drain, after RAP dropout at about 10 minutes, should be 15 - 25 mA.

Re: 96 eldorado black box under steering column flashing lights

:yeah:
Nothing like that stock I can ever recall on a GM.
Only other thing I can think of is a tracker if it had a loan on it.

Re: 96 eldorado black box under steering column flashing lights

I got the box out it has imetrik solutions on it .It even has an antenna on it
I looked it up it seems to be some kind of tracking device.Im going to run my test again and see if that's whats causing the draw

----------

I ran the test without the tracker hooked up it now drops to 35 miliamp draw

THE CAR WILL NOT START WITHOUT THE TRACKER HOOKED UP WHAT DO I DO NOW

Hook it back up?? There are obviously other parts to this thing you have to find.
Used car lots with buy here pay here use these, when you don't pay they cut the car off and or use as GPS to find and repo vehicle. If not your loan, the previous owner didn't have removed when loan was paid off/sold.

I paid cash for the car 4 or 5 years ago ..
Im looking at the way it's wired the device is tapped into the red wire and yellow wire under the dash (it has to be the ignition) and looks like it has a ground going somewhere .(I can't reach but so far)

Shouldn't I be able to just remove this device from the wires I describe and try and start the car or would I run the risk of screwing something up
