i have a 96 deville with 142000 miles on it, i stopped short at a redlight and it just shut off, i noticed the fuel pump was whining a little bit this past week, does anyone know if it could be a maybe clogged fuel filter or if the pump could be going bad or if thats common and it could be something else? please let me know....

i was going to change the filter tomorrow and see if the whining stops because ive been using cheap gas lately because of the prices and i thought maybe the filter was clogged and the pump was whining because it was over working, its only stalled on me once and that was tonight maybe its a clogged egr or something?

Cheap gas has nothing to do with it. Sediment from the stations tanks may be another story if it is an old station and you filled up while they where getting a fuel delivery.

EGR should set a code if it is faulty.

Have you cleaned the TB lately?

Remove the intake ducting. Block the throttle plate open. Spray the TB bore with Gumout or such. Scrub with a tootbrush and wipe with a rag til clean. Also do the throttle plate (backside and perimiter). DO NOT scrape carbon off with a metalic tool. The idea is to have a clean mating surface where the throttle plate meets the bore. This should be yearly maintanence.
