My key is stuck, it will start and go to off position but not to lock position. Anybody run into this problem or know how to fix it- could it be in the shifter possibly?

im not familiar with the older model GM's i know that the HHR when the battery died the key got stuck
how is your battery low ? or can you start the car and drive it it just wont turn all the way to the off disposition ?

i have a key that was bad the teeth on the key actually started going bad and sometimes it didnt want to go in and sometimes it didnt want to come out but still i could turn it off and on
this was in one of the Lincolns

Something similar has happened to me sometime ago. The the car was running and the key would not turn to shut down(by normal means). I used a pair of long nosed pliers to turn them back so that I was able to shut down the car. Not to long thereafter, I had to replace the lock cylinder.

I don't know about a '95 eldo, but I had a similar problem with my '02 seville. It would almost halfway to the final position where I could pull out the key. I found that if I waited for about an hour, it would turn all the way and I could pull out the key. Replacing the ignition switch helped a little. But the final solution had to do with the park lock cable. It was riding up in its slot near the shifter. I pushed down on the cable end to reseat it, and haven't had a problem since (over a year). FWIW.
