Trying to get a feel for the cost of replacing a starter on a 94 SLS, 106K.
I have been quoted $385 to $425. Is this guy in the ballpark.

Thanks

The starter is UNDER the intake, so that seems about right. In order to change it, they have to take the entire upper intake off.

Probably about right because of where the starter is located. The starter itself is around $189 and you also have to buy the intake gaskets. It is a dry intake ( no coolant goes through it). The job is not that hard but it is a little time consuming so assuming a shop charges $50 an hour it isn't out of the ball park.

$385 is a customary price due to the nature of the starter location and cost of the part. Be sure you know the "source" of the new part. If it is not a genuine GM rebuild, or not a new starter, move to another installer.
