I just bought a 1991 Eldorado with 47000 miles and great condition.

But, the hood insulation has been ripped by the drive belt / serpentine belt and seems to be rubbing still.

I don't know if this is a common problem with the year and model? Or if the hood insulation is not on properly. Although the nuts that keep it in place all seem to be there. But the insulation does not sit tight on the underside of the hood.

Previous owner seems to have had raised the hood a half an inch on the left side (when looking at the car from front) to prevent it from rubbing and tearing the insulation more.

So I would be glad if someone could let me know if they recognize this problem and could help a fellow out?

The only way the belt can touch the insulation is if it's sagging. Either cut out the area that's rubbing, or find a replacement hood pad.

Any chance the belt is frayed and is whipping the insulation?
