Hi Cadillac friends! Saturday night was a really interesting night for me so I would like to share it with you. It all started with what car to take to our local high school auditorium for a billy joel tribute. The parents 1999 Deville with 30,000 miles? Or my car the 1991 Deville with 167,000 miles? Well we took my 1991 Deville it was full with my mom dad me grandpa and his girlfriend. We were following a newer Deville there that looked like a 2000 something- I figured ok that’s a nice car, lets park behind him (side of the road) He Stops parks I pull up behind him put my car in park still running, my dad opens the rear door to exit the car when his door gets stuck on the cement wall they had built for a curve. I look back to say to myself “oh no a new scratch”! I look away to not watch him pull the door off the cement to my surprise I see the grey new Cadillac in reverse speeding towards my car! Instinct told me he is going to hit me… I slam the horn about 2 seconds before BOOM it was too late. I had my car in PARK with my foot on the brake and we still somehow went backwards about one inch… that’s how far the scratch from my rear door showed on the pavement. He then pulls ahead gets out comes to me says “eh no damage done sorry” gets in his car drives away! Well he (us too) still wanted to watch the concert, so he parked about 400 foot away at the time I just happened to have my camera with me so I ran over to his car shot some pictures of his rear bumper and plate just incase. My 1991 Deville left its prints in his new caddy! Now today I had time to look at my 91 and found a crap load of problems the front bumper is pushed in on the passenger side about 1” and really close to scraping my tire .The drivers side seems to be ok other that the bumper “shock” moved nicely. For some reason the passenger side “shock” Didn’t budge and I guess is why my bumper is bent back? What do you guys think? After the concert when I shifted out of park to drive it was really had like when you park on a hill, (I was not on a hill) could that be bad? I sent some pictures along for you to look at. Thanks for your time! & hope this doesn’t happen to your baby!

Any thing elce i should look for that could be bent?

since the car was in park and it got hit, that put alot of pressure against the parking prawl int he trans... thats why it was hard to shift like that... anytime that ever happens, or you stop short, just let off the brakes (if in gear) or switch into gear then back (if in park) to relive the stress.

I had something like that happen to me in the '93 Coupe... it was a couple weeks ago and I was at the drag strip, in the staging lanes, and the guy in an S10 in front of me just backs up right into me! hit the left bumper ette right where it meets the bumper... hit me hard too and it lifted the front end of my car...

he then realized that and pulled up, I looked and it only lightly scuffed and put a small flat spot in the plastic cover thing, bumper was fine, I assume the shocks did their job, tho I never looked at them since, I should tho... his plastic bumper cover had a similar indent in it.

No report or big deal was made, and I figured it was the way to balance out the world of things, since a couple nights before that I backed into someone at the gas station (first time ever!) going like 3mph, and it didn't appear to do anything, so we let it slide.
