How long of a job is it to rebuild my V9 engine? Also would it be smart to follow the Chilton book on the engine rebuild?

how long it takes, depends on what is wrong, your skill, and the tools available, the chilton or haynes manuals are simply too generic for use, the fsm is your best choice as it narrows everthing down. It is unusual to see someone wanting to rebuild the 4 nine, as its one of the best engines GM ever made, its the tranny that almost always needs to be rebuilt as it is not very strong and does not last beyond the 170k mark as an average. Good luck to you

yeah my engine has 225K miles on it and I got a tune up about 2 weeks ago and now my caddie is sitting in my apartment parking lot. I want to get it up and running good for a car show in august.

As mentioned it would be smart to dump the Chiltons and get a FSM by Helm Inc.

What exactly is wrong with it that it needs to be rebuilt (other than the high mileage)?
