I have searched, I have read, and I still cannot answer the question: Can the 9.5x19 CTS-V rear wheels with OEM Michelin 285/35 tires be moved to the front? Without any other changes or rubbing. EDIT: Forgot, with 11mm spacers if required.

I need the answer categorically, yes or no, by someone who has done it.

Photos please.

Many will say "That has been asked and answered" and that's true. But the answers are split between "Yes" and "No".

I am ready to pull the trigger on an order for two 9.5x19 OEM wheels and I need to know.

Please HELP me!

OK, since I'm doing my monthly detailing of my wheels and wheel wells this morning (OCD :cookoo:).... I took the time to put the stock rear/OEM 9.5x19 wheel with the OEM Michelin 285/35 tire and mounted it onto the front hub of my 2009 CTS-V sedan.

Answer: NO - they will not work. The inside tire wall rubs or binds against the suspension. "Spacers would be required".

How thick? I don't know. I'll defer to the guys that have done the various combos of wheels and tires swaps or wheel widening to jump in to answer that.

Hello,

The definitive answer is yes, but only with the spacer. We were the first ones to develop and introduce this while proving its gains on the race track. We have a complete solution for you in our spacer/stud kit.

I have a full widened set from my sedan with tires and spacers for sale. You run the rears (as you've asked) with D3's spacers up front and there is zero rubbing. My OEM fronts were widened to 19x11 and I have 305's mounted and run on the rear with D3 spacers, and no rubbing. The wheels are polished. I may have someone interested in just my widened pair, which would leave my OEM rears available depending on what you want to do. As I mentioned, spacers are included. However, you will need longer studs (D3 has a kit) to run them safely. My car is the bottom one in Dr. Design's post above.

Apologies to Dr. Design for hijacking to sell off my bits :)

Thank you very much Rule12b (whet is rule 12b?). What you did is what I'm doing. I was being a little conservative and looking at widening the front 9's to 10.5 for the rear, but 11 is cool. What I have now is a set of 2011 CTS-V Coupe wheels. As you know the rear offset is outside the fender and I want to get it back a little. The 10's will be up for sale.

Unfortunately, just this morning, I sealed a deal on two 9.5's for the front. They have been shipped.

Please tell me why you took them off. Problems?

PM me about the widened wheels.

Thanks Dr. Design. I will be getting back to you on the spacers. I checked a week or so ago and they were back ordered.

Thanks OldRoadDawg,
You went above and beyond, and Judging by the response from Dr. Design and Rule12b you were 100% correct.

----------

Lol. The sedans can be switched back to front.
Given the other responses I will say you have the forrest answer. Thanks

With 11mm d3 spacers.

Thanks ALL, my question has been answered. Project will continue with photos to follow when done.

In the photo d3 photo your car's rear wheel looks cantered and the body looks high. Did it just get lowered off a jack?

Okay, I'm back at this again. Thought I had all the info I needed but then got to looking at the 295/35 option instead of the 305/30. The 295/35 looks to be a better match to the 285/35 up front. In fact the 295 (27.1") is .8" taller then the 305 (26.3"). May not sound like much but .8" is a lot given that the rear tires look so small in stock configuration.

I also found it very interesting that the 295/35-19 in the exact same diameter as the 255/40-19. If matching tire diameter is so important why didn't GM use the 295. I know, cost, and the need for a wider wheel, more cost. On a $70K car?

Also of interest is the Goodyear F1 Eagle Asymmetric 2 295/35-19 has the same 12" tread width as the Michelin Pilot SS 305/30-19. I'm going for looks here.

Thoughts on the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2?

I think it's a sign! The tire is a Band around the wheel and the Eagles are one of the great Bands of all times. And I just watched "The History of the Eagles" on TV. Do you feel the Karma?

I'm not takling run flats here. Been there, done that, on my Corvette and I hated them.

Would you believe there is an 8 to 10 week backorder for Michelin Pilot SS 305/30-19 at Discount Tire? I was there today and if they would have had them I would not be here boring you guys. More Karma?

D3, any thoughts on the 295/35-19 on 9" wheels widened to 11" with your spacer and spring kit?

Rule12b, you're my "go to guy" on this tire/wheel stuff. Don't screw the Karma now, what do you think of the Goodyears for the street?

And what in Rule12b?

Thanks all.

PS: I finished up the CTS-V brake install on my 2008 CTS this week. Complete bolt on mod but the rears were HARD to do. I will be doing the wright up for those following this DIY.

I know this is a dated post, but thought I's share that I've decided to do this myself after catching up with a lot of this knowledge - just in case others need a bit of distinction on the theme. Anyway, I put my 9.5 sedan rear rims with OEM Michelin 285's up front with 11mm spacer and took a short test drive with it yesterday. No issues, no rubbing. Note I also have D3 comp springs and bars. I then mounted my 9.5 rear 295 Hoosier R6 track tires with 8mm spacer up front and have about 2mm clearance to the spindle. I have not test driven this yet and won't until next track day (come spring) but since the R6 is slight lower in total tire diameter, I don't anticipate any problems. This would be nice, then I could track with 295 R6 square and run the wide set-up RE11s for those events that require 200 treadwear (Goodguys/Optima/SCCA). I just sent my front OEM 9 inch rims to Eric Vaughn to widen them to 10.5 so I can run 305 RE 11's in the rear for hopefully a lot more bite; again for the 200 tread wear events. Can't wait.
