I have a 1989 Eldorado, Was having trouble with the key switch becoming hard to turn, Also a couple of times I would turn the key and nothing would happen. The other day I went to start the car and the key switch felt like it just broke loose, Now it just turns with no resistance and does nothing.

Re: 89 Eldorado

Do you think the switch is bad or maybe the rod disconnected somehow?

Rereading this sounds like the acutator rod or rack broke same thing happend to my sts, find a local steering column specialist as the inside is not for the faint of heart.

Similar thing happened to me yesterday. Cannot get the ignition switch to return to normal position and the car will not stop running.

My car has almost 164,000 miles and although it runs well it has been hit and is not winning any beauty contests anymore. All the other repairs sound expensive, I just don't want to spend more money on it than necessary.

Is there an easy way to bypass the key switch and use an universal switch to start the car?

Thanks
