I have an 89 Deville that shifts very hard into reverse. This is no normal operation. It is very violent. The car does not lunge or anything, it just clanks very hard when shifted into reverse. It does not do this going into drive. The idle speed is within specs. I have replaced the two tranny mounts on the back/bottom to no avail. I am wondering if either or both of the front motor mounts could be bad and causing this. Any idea what it would be causing this only in reverse?

engine mounts can do it as well. assuming you know how to to check them... also, hate to state the obvious... fluid... color... smell... filter clogged? etc. also check regulator? yea that lil guy, they get gummed up and all that fun stuff. i would not bring it somewhere to be flushed as you can Easily do it at home with a wrench or two....

yeah. fluid was flushed and new filter installed. no change. the fluid wasn't burnt or anything. i'm not sure what you are referring to when you say "regulator".

i was also just wondering, is it possible for it to do that only in reverse if it's bad motor mounts?
