I feel stupid asking this being that I've changed GM stereos several times but i'm having a prob taking the cover off on the center of the dash to remove the stock radio and installing an aftermarket one on my 87 Brougham RWD. There are two screws on the side of the cover that I removed, the bottom half lifts up but the top (where the A/C vents are) will not budge. There seem to be no other screws, I tried forcing it (kinda) and it feels like the cover will break. How do you remove this thing? Thanks for any help.

Hi Destroyer

The other screws are actually behind the vents for the aircon. You need to (carefully!) rotate/remove the inner section of the vent.

You should then find another two screws, they screw in ata n angle of about 45 degrees into the top of the fascia.

When I replaced my factory kit I also found that the rear of the unit was secured by a volt, so once you have the fascia off, and have removed the bolts on each side, don't be surprised if you can't get the damn thing out!!

Good Luck,
Tony

Thanks Tony. I never would have figured that out. The vents just rotate and then come out? Kinda like unscrewing them?. I'll give it a shot tomorrow. Thanks again.

The A/C vents are sort of spring loaded into the facia, like a tiolet paper roll
holder. Be careful trying to remove those vents, the chrome vertical strips
break easy...
