87 Brougham - let me introduce :)

Hi all,

I thought it's a good idea to introduce myself upon joining.

I'm a new guy here in USA and thought there's no better way to enjoy my American way of life (and I'll have some 12 months of it before heading back home to Europe) than living in American suburb and driving American steel, chrome and vinyl. Needless to say - here's my new toy and joy.

1987 Brougham with 5.0 v8 and currently 28k miles on the car. As for looks and condition - judge by the pictures:

As expected with this milage and condition, car drives like new. Quiet, smooth, relaxed. No mechanical issues observed since I bought it in January. During routine check-up at vintage-car specialized station we've found no issues to address other than some minor "leak" in one of the mufflers - I've had the whole exhaust pipe with mufflers replaced from front axle back.

There are however two recent minor electrical problems which I plan to solve and will seek help on this forum. But I assume this should be moved to technical sub-forum, right?

No, ask the question here. You will get the benefit of the knowledge of all the owners that have probably dealt with the exact same issue...

BTW, great pics. The interior shots look like a Cad brochure!

Holy smokes. That's one of the few red interiors that I like. Love that color! Great car!

Awesome car, and I love that red velour interior. Wish they still made cars with an interior like that. Is the exterior black, or a dark burgandy?

According to tag exterior is "maroon".
Actually I'd say it's something between brown and dark burgundy color. Vinyl is burgundy.

btw: i would be very interested in your estimates on market value of the car. i was so in love with it the moment i saw it, that i did not consider this a factor.

as said car has 28k miles on it. it had one owner until i bought it this january. never any body work. no mechanical problems. interior without single stain or scratch. clean trunk with spotless carpeting.

how much is it actualy worth in your opinion?

i'm coming back home to europe towards the end of the year and i was wondering how much i should be asking for it when the time for sale comes.

Hello.

Why don't you take it with you home.
I don't know where in Europe you are from but if you are staying so long as a year some countrys have easier laws when you take a car with you home.

Wouldn't you have to do some stuff to the car if you wanted to take it back though? A european license plate will not fit and aren't cars required to have fog lights front and rear in Europe?

Hello.

I dont know how it works in other European countrys, but in Sweden is it possible to take your car with you from the US if you have lived there for atleast six months. You have the right to use the car like you did in US, and dont have to do anything to your car if that the case.

The license plates is aviable in small size too.

If you import a car othervise, is there a number of things you must alter on the car to get it approved, depending on model year, for exampel, rear amber turnsignal, speedo to KM/h, and various paperwork.

My Fleetwood Brougham -76 was first imported as a property of a person that were moving back to Sweden. If the owner dont sell the car in some time, the "rights" the first owner got follows the car, so I dont have to have rear amber turnsignal or km/h speedo.

Great looking Cadillac.

If you do bring it back with you, you should convert it to run on Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG). It's not that hard of a conversion, and with the price of gasoline in Europe, it will save you a ton. The LPG also burns cleaner, so will it help keep your engine in the condition it is in now.

One of my friends on cardomain.com converted their 82 Oldsmobile Delta 88, with a 307, to run on LPG. He lives in Holland.

bringing the car back to europe (poland) is definitely an option. converting it to lpg or anything else, is definitely not. i do not plan to use it as a daily driver over there, so price of gasoline is not a factor - keeping it original is of bigger value to me.

but still, i am not sure if i wll bring it back, irrespective of how much i love driving it or just caring for it with a cloth and wax.

i am here (in states) only for a year. then i'm coming back. i wanted to use this time to get as much american moto-memories as possible. so i got myself a big pretty cadillac that i just adore. before that, i drove around for a while in the biggest possible version of a new ford expedition - not exactly my type of ride, but as i cannot have that back home it was a clear "gotta-check-it-out" thing. what i miss now in my portfolio is something like camaro, mustang or one of those new challengers. so - i do not know what else will show up in my garage next to my beloved caddy, but probably only one (if any) of those will fly back with me home.

hence the question - how much do you think the caddy is worth - i just wonder how much i've overpaid.
