83 deville engine swap...

Got a 83 with the 4100 in it and its ok but the power sucks. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if a 429 engine and transmission will fit? It is from a 1965.

You could make it fit but it would require changing a whole lot of stuff. Even the transmission bellhousing is different. Too much work. The 429 is better off in a car that came with it. Those engines had a few issues that later Cadillac powerplants didn't. Try for example, sourcing an oil pump. You will find out that the engine went through several redesigns. All the pieces and parts are collector items and if you need something you have to compete with big bux restorers. You could probably sell the engine to a collector and raise enough $$ for something easier to replace that poor little HT-4100.
Thanks for that info but what do you think would be a more probable fix... more compatible to the cars natural setup... I just don't wanna go through the headache of figuring it out by trial and error....

A 307 Olds from a later Brougham. You will lose the TBI, though...
Or a 350 TBI from a 90-92 towing car.

Definitely. Should be nothing but junkyard shopping.
Most swaps require access or ownership of an entire donor car.
Your level of mechanical B.S. tolerance is a major factor as no swap is simple. How much work do you want to do?
The easiest conversion would be a DEFI 6.0 litre engine from a 1981-5 limo. That setup is not easy to find.
Any GM RWD car powerplant made in the last 40 years will fit in there.
There was a place selling a 4.9 modified to bolt up in a RWD car. That would be much easier than changing exhaust, fuel system and transmissions. Dunno if they are still around.

Popular swaps were Olds 350. Great powerplant. They are OLD now.
Chevy schmall block. Everyone has one. Almost nothing matches though so you need a whole car to make either of these work. The Olds 307 was a decent engine but you want one with no fuel system issues as these have more vacuum lines than the space shuttle. Basically a fuel system built for mechanics who didn't want to learn fuel injection. You want to be the last guy on earth driving with a Rottenchester Clodrajet, get one of these.....
Good luck and drive your HT-4100 to church every sunday. It might last a while then.:alchi::)
