Need some help, I want to put a new fuel filter in 1980 deville, 368, it's right in the carb body, and involves two wrenchs to remove old one. one of the wrenches is a 15/16" , the other wrench ( to remove fuel line) is somewhere around a 9/16, 1/2, or ??. one is too small and the other is sloppy and might round soft nut. does anyone know actual size?. tkanks.

It's a 5/8" nut. 16 mm will work fine also. You should use a tubing wrench for the job. Sometimes a tubing wrench can be forced onto rounded nuts by rocking it while applying a lot of pressure.

Does that filter serve as an auxillary? I know the q-jets on the BBC's (any engine for that matter) have either a paper filter or a mesh filter. My '68 has a mesh filter with a large primary filter under the pump... Do the q-jets with a paper filter also have a large primary?

I have only owned car for a month, but as far as I can find out it only has the one filter, it is quite small , approx. 1/2" dia. by 3" long. with a built in "check valve". I also bought an inline filter that I will install sometime.
tnx. for reply

Check the frame rail about 3/4 of the way back, on the drivers side. There should be a bigger primary one.

You won't find a fuel filter on the frame rail of a carburated 1980 Cadillac unless someone modified it. You might be thinking of the fuel injected models.
The filter in the fuel pump isn't there on later models either.

yes , my car has a carburetor, so I guess there's just the one filter in the carb. and none on the frame.

The older cars had a filter right in the pump. Later ones I've seen didn't use that filter. Some had both filters.
