'79 Coupe Deville body side moldings

1237 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  guyrobert
I have a '79 Coupe Deville that previously had the side moldings removed and all the rivots on the body were shaved off. I would like to re-install all the moldings but I am not sure of the placement in which they should go. Does anyone know of some kind of measurements or a way of using a template of some kind to make sure the moldings are installed in the same place on the body as they originally were?

Not even a single response?

Is there anyone out there that has a '77-'79 coupe that can help a brother out?
Mine is in the garage today, but perhaps I could get some measurements this evening.

Thanks, I would really appreciate that.
Rebecca is in the shop at the moment. However, here's a link to several pics of the old girl that shoud give you a start.

Measuring up from the top of the rocker trim to the bottom of the side trim is 15 inches.
Match that between the wheels and then just make it straight going back.

Remember, if you really want that true, factory original look, don't line them up perfectly :)

^^^ Describes my car! Nothing lines up on 70's GM bodies, that's what gives them so much character! :)

Smart the rivets for those moldings were shaved off---they were a source of rust.
My '78 Deville is in the body shop for complete repainting/bodywork and I had them shave off all the rivets.
I had egg sized pockets of rust a each rivet point along entire both sides.
Never thought about the how to install the moldings in the same place---sure hope the body shop people know.
I`ll know soon since I`m getting my Caddy back today---same color (Western Saddle Firemist) as Henry Hills Caddy in "Goodfellas"
Re: Mr

You can get ne side moldings on Ebay They are self sticking and you cut them with a sharp pair of garden anvil clippers they run about $65.00 for both sides
and 4 pointed ends
