Hey Guys,

It is D-Day 75 years aniversary tomorrow.
I have been fortunate that my parents took me to Omaha, Juno, Sword beaches and Pointe du Hoc.

Young soldiers being hammered down for a course they did not have any part in - other than fight for freedom.

If any of you have ancestors serving - thank you all. This is NOT forgotten here. We owe our liberty and wealth to these soldiers.

Lost 2 uncles there. Juno. A third, dad's first cousin, was a B-25 pilot over France and Germany. He came home and died of alcoholism in the early 50s.

Dad was in the Pacific at the time. He came home with grenade shrapnel in his right thigh. Never talked about it.

I was on Juno beach last month. I take students to Europe every year to commemorate our veterans. This year, we chose soldiers that were local to our school, did research on their lives (and deaths), and visited their final resting spot at the Beny-sur-Mer cemetery. We did an amazing ceremony right on the beach where each student spoke about their soldier. Two of our students were cadets in full uniform, and one was a piper. A very moving experience.

It disappoints me when I hear adults say that young people have forgotten. They haven't. With the access to information now, they probably know more about what happened than previous generations.

Sub, if you PM me your uncles' names, I can probably provide you with their complete service records.

my Great uncle: Manuel C Alcorcha, passed November 22, 2018 @ 95 years old, a month after his sister, my grandmother passed away at 104, D-Day vet. this man basically raised me through the years, especially when my parents split up, after WW2 he worked at the Sacramento army depot and retired later on. was always a Ford man, growing up he had a 78 Ford LTD sedan bought new in that year, plastic covered seats, had it serviced at the dealership he purchased it at up until 1995. I washed that car for him on a weekly basis. Listened to baseball games on the radio outside with a cold beer, and listened to a lot of Glen Miller.

my dad was a veteran of WW2. He and mom were married a year after the war ended. I have the flag that covered his casket when he passed four years ago. He didn't talk much about it, but he didn't tolerate disloyalty or dishonor the flag.

What those men had the courage to do under those conditions is nothing short of amazing. Some day I'd like to visit the beaches and pay my respects.
My wife wanted to get married on June 6th and I refused, a day like June 6th is too important a day to me already.

Very interesting and moving stories folks. Thanks for sharing.
The ceremony on the beach I would give my right arm to participate in. I guess the stories about the soldiers almost woke the whole battle to life again there on the beach.
My kids are going there when they are old enough to grasp and manage.

I went on USN active duty in 1959 and my first two submarines were WW-II diesel/electric boats. 14 years after the end of the war most of the senior submarine officers and petty officers still on active duty had actual WW-II patrol experience, whether in the Atlantic or Pacific theaters, so some of the "sea stories" would curl your hair. Us kids were lucky enough to learn from the best of the best.

My dad was a veteran of WWI. He served in France in the 27th Aero squadron as an armorer, and crewed for Lt. Frank Luke of Arizona. At the time of his death, Luke was the American Ace of Aces.
