Our 68 has no engine but dies have a ..400t......What engines will sub for the 472? I found a 76 with a 500 and 400 t.........and an eldorado with a 500......also a 455 rocket with 400t........what's my best choice

1968 was the first year of the 472. The 500 is the same block, just different crank, heads, etc.

Use the 500 as it is better than a '68 472 which had oil passage issues.

I believe the Eldo 500 had some other differences in the engine configuration but not a big deal.

Check out MTS and CAD for the best 472/500 advice there is.

If you get a '70 crank pulley you can ditch the A.I.R. (smog) pump all together. That's what I did. '70 did not have the smog pump and the pulley lines up to let the ALT adjust the belt.

the cadillac 472, 500, 425 and 368 engines are all nearly the same except for displacement and state of tune. 472s and 500s glut the junkyards of America so finding a replacement should be easy, and cheap.
