505HP Street Car to Much?

I'm awestruck with the 2006 LS& 7 liter 505 Horse Power Corvette. This Corvette is possibly the fastest production car in mass production. It will speed up to 198 MPH. What's your thoughts about allowing anyone to buy and drive what is potentially a lethal weapon?

A .44 Magnum is a potentially lethal weapon, but if I don't point it at someone and shoot, it's no more dangerous than a spitball.
Dunno about it being the fastest car in mass production, but yes it's VERY fast.

The cars abilities are well beyond mot drivers. Sadly, mist guys think they're driving is s*** hot but when you've been taken around a race track by a genuine racing driver you realise how much you suck.

Thankfully mot won't be taking the Corvette to anytihng like that speed as they'll lose their nerve around 160 at most.
The bigger danger is nailing it in the wet coming out of a bend and they could lose a car with half that power doing that.

I know as I've spun my IROC twice in the wet.
I certainly won't be doing it again.

I said "possibly the fastest". Many magazine articles think it is. It was compared to the Ferrari and is faster.

My point is that this Corvette power could be abused on the streets. I've read numerous stories regarding wrecks of the Turbo street Porsches. I think I read someone is offering a 600+HP street car.
I say if you can afford one, more power to ya!

Indeed, i go past a high school on my journey to work, its scary how many parents still drop their 16 year old kids off at school, I mean, my wife took our kids to school, but that is different, she is a teacher there, and its about 25 miles away!

When i was 12 i wouldnt want my mother or father dropping me off at school! I would be too embarrassed!

Yep and at the Mall we'd walk ahead of them so we looked like we were alone. Even at the movies we'd set a row or two back. Image was everything!!:yup:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Corvette have electronics that keep a foolish driver SOMEWHAT in control?

Don't remember where I saw it, but supposedly some LARGE percentage (like 30%?) of new Viper owners never make it home from the dealer's with their new cars before crashing it into something. I know these things have no traction control or any kind of electronic suspension controls (like the Corvette does).

That's what I was alluding to.
When I'm out on the road, two things really scare me. 1st being soccer moms that are not paying attention to the road and other motorists. The 2nd thing I'm afraid of is some teenagers behind the wheel of high performance cars. They will do anything to show off and win. They don't mind cutting in and out of traffic, sometimes I will see people speeding down the streets on the shoulders Now if thats not dangerous, I dont know what is. With the new Z06, if you can afford one, I don't think it will be a big deal to pay off speeding tickets and whatnot, if you decide to drive this car to its limits. So, In the right hands, 505 hp is not too much, but in the wrong hands, 140hp is too much:nono:

I don't see how that is any more of a lethal weapon then my '79 DeVille....

only difference is, due to crumple zones and all that other wonderful stuff, my DeVille will keep going while the Corvette stops :)

high speed or lots of power alone don't make a car a lethal weapon.

Done improperly a Yugo can be lethal. For occupants, or for bystanders. It comes down to driver skill. The Z07, priced at around 60 or 70 if I recall, should be pricey enough that the people who do buy one, will have the experience to be at least passable at driving it. What worries me more is the popularity of the pocket rockets, WRX, Evo, etc, into the Mustangs, all of which are relatively cheap, and pretty fast on their own. The number of inexperienced drivers behind the wheels of those vehicles is more risky to me than a few of the new Z07's (Or is it still Z06?)
Try putting a soccer mom behind the wheel of a 6000lb SUV while talking on a cellphone, putting on makeup, and managing 2 kids in the back seat......all while driving at highway speeds. Now that's a deadly weapon! ;)

Indeed it is!

One woman in a (guess the SUV) drove me literally off the road on my way to work a few months back.

Two kids in the back, singing along to the radio with one ahnd on the wheel. I had to drive on the verge for about 100 yards while her (Insert SUV here) was eyeing up my driver's side door!
On the subject of price I don't think the high price tag means that only sensible drivers will be behind the wheel.

Around my way a lot of rich, VERY over-confident egotistical types drive high powered cars that they can't handle. They watch programmes like Top Gear and think they can slide the arse end of their M5 around a roundabout. They can't.

The bniggest danger I have found is converting my friends to RWD muscle cars from the FWD hot hactehs they currently drive.
A 250HP Mustang or Camaro is a lot more of a handful than a 250 WRX or Golf.

Theres one roundabout where i live, or not far, that gets anyone inexperienced in the wet. The exit is funny in the way it turns to the left moree sharply than most roundabouts.

Every time it rains there are a host of tyre marks into the bushes where people who had Mondeos and now have BMW 318s go into the trees, its very amusing seeing someone drive their £20000 status symbol into some blackberry bushes :D

Still Z06. The thing that changed was C5 to C6 (6th generation...) The 7 you're thinking of may have come from the LS7 motor that's in it.

Anyway, the Viper's had 500hp for a few years, I don't think an extra 1% is gonna be much different
