Well this it the 4th time the v has been to the dealer to find the source of the "knocking" sound in the rear when i go over speed bumps and stop fast at a light.
They removed my FG-2 shocks saying it was a defective shock(s)- i insisted they put my FE-4 back on to confirm this (at there cost) and lo and behold same noise!!!
BTW the dealer said they would not warrenty the part (shocks) or ANY labor for the repair because I ...1) did not buy shocks at there dealership and 2) dealer installed parts only come with a "part warrenty" and no labor coverage-:wtf:
That means if you move out of state and take a V to the dealer for a bad FG-2 that was installed by the purchase point dealer, the other dealer will say you have to take it off at your cost and then send it back to dealer #1 and get a replacement from them???? Does not sound right???
Anywho, Getting to the point the tech said he thinks it's the TSB bushing making the racket and then said there is ANOTHER bushing that is a COMPLETE replacement (Not the "void filling" one we all know of) that replaces the soft rubber one that fits in the metal round casing attached to the cradle mount which bolts to the frame.:hmm:
He said there is NO TSB for this new part and it was in a "PI" (what ever that is?????)
They said they would order me this part and install it to see if it helps- anyone heard of this one???????

The rear cradle bushings are either worn or improperly torqued. No big deal.

checked the torque, its ok
not sure how the rubber bushings would wear out @ 9K???? Maybe because of the delrin inserts from specter/GM????
can you visually see the wear or must they be removed to inspect them to see the wear? Because they look ok to me under the lift at the shop.

I see a PI for the FG2 shocks, says the dealers can install them.
I don't see any PI for updated bushings other than the TSB related concern for wheel hop.
Can you describe when you hear the noise and give a description of the noise itself? Is it a single pop, double or a chatter or rubbing type noise?
I see your description above, are those the only times you hear it?
Can you duplicate it for them?
Tell them to get out the chassis ears and try to isolate the noise.

Ah, I didn't realize you already had the TSB bushings.

You have a lubrication issue (lack thereof). They need to disassemble the bushings and put a good quality lube in there that won't wear out. Several forum members have reported needing to hose down the bushings with commercial stuff (WD40, etc...) once a month to get rid of it.

no problem duplicating it! Every time i go slow over any bump bigger than a lip on a driveway you hear it. Its like something is loose in back, sounds like a suspension part not torqued down. It makes a pop or knock as if something fell over in the trunk when you went over the bump. Its not a groan or squeek.
If speed is increased say over 10 miles per hour it tends to go away but if the bump is big enough it will resurface at speeds up to 25 mph approx.
VERY WEIRD!!! And totally annoying to me. no noise at hightway speeds.

new bushings sounds great...the whole piece not just the inserts.
James can chime in of the FG2 warranty. But since they're off you can sent the fronts to wildwhl for grooves, and lower her
One other option of course is change service shops. You know "the other" one in town but I recommend PMg ssmith100 and see if his wife's shop can accomodate you. Sure its in houston but you'll get a loaner and get treated really well. If she comes up with a 15x diff for me before cavender, i'm going there

The warranty on the shocks according to GM...

Dealer Installed GM Accessories
• GM Accessories (identified in the GMSPO Parts and Accessories Catalog) permanently
installed by dealer, are covered for the full term of the bumper-to-bumper coverage,
but in no event, less than 12 months/12,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

There's no mention of the part only being covered...

As far as the "PI" regarding the complete bushing replacement, haven't heard of it or been able to find it...

I had the same sound...braking at a stop and taking off, as well as small bumps at slow speed. It was the one problem that had me as close to Lemoning the car as I've ever been, I can't explain how upset I was with this.

The fix was a new trailing-arm bushing/knuckle, I'll look for the part number now...
Found it...

Description - Knuckle 5.806, Part# 88951999


It took them 3 times to find this, I threatened with Lemon Law if they didn't find it. They found it and fixed it.

4 times you complained? In CA, I believe you've reached LemonLaw status.

The part that was replaced was worn due to "extreme cornering forces". I'm not saying that I autox, but tires are not known to last 'round here. I wonder if I'm gonna need another one/two next summer...

Moldy,
Don't print the thread, just bring them the part number and tell them to check it. The reason I ask is to keep this "our" secret, GM has plenty of info available...we only have this place. They don't need to know about it. And if a dealer ever wanted to "follow" a certain poster to deny warrantee due to "abusive" driving, it'd be pretty easy once they knew who he/she was.

I know I sound paranoid, but THEY already have "insiders" here...I know it...sometimes at traffic lights, I know they're watching to make sure I don't peel-out. THEY are out there, I don't know exactly who THEY are, but THEY know who THEY are...

Let's just hope the dealershisp can diagnose the issue.

Yeah, I wouldn't go printing out forum pages anyway.
Most Service departments really don't care to see this kind of thing.
It's better to use things like "my mechanic friend told me...." or, "I called another dealer and they said...".
Or how about "one of my buddies from college works at a dealer in ...insert name of faraway place... and he suggested that he's been having problems with....."

Be creative and offer "suggestions". If you go in there telling them what is wrong you may not get very far. Also I think what James posted is from the Policies and Procedures manual. That's the bible as far as the Service Department goes. Ask them what P&P says about your "dealer installed accessories". Blame your old school buddy for telling you that if they ask where you heard it.

I haven't had to replace any components for such a noise and if I had it, I would connect a device called "chassis ears", which are basically little clips you hook to different spots on the suspension, then hook them to a set of headphones and drive around duplicating the noise, and switch channels on the up to 6 clips to isolate the noise to a certain component. Most guys don't like to do that because it takes a lot of time.

Moldy...Are talkin' about Cavender or Batchelor? The Cavenders are San Antonio boys. Batchelor is an "import"...like a new guy in town. I've had EXCELLENT results at Cavender, but I've known the Cavenders for over 60 years and I did buy my car new from them...for what ever that's worth.
