325HP or 300HP

I've read a few posts stating that the 2002 Eldorado Collector Series engine actually puts out 325HP vs 300HP as stated on the window sticker. Is there any truth to this, or is this just a rumor? Anyone know for sure?

I think it's still 300. I know that the exhaust is tuned different, but I think this produces audible results only. I don't think there is an effective power increase.
You would think that they would be sure to get it right on the window sticker if this car had the most powerful non-supercharged N* ever in a production vehicle (as of 2002).
Disclaimer: I could be wrong though...
I think it's always been rumor (or maybe just an assumption) that the special exhaust added 10-20 hp to the car. It has always officially been 300 hp. Take 'er down the drag strip, and you can use your time and speed to estimate horsepower.

Yes, I did...did you not read my post????:)

Why would you think it would be any different from what is there? Back in the late 60's and early 70's vehicle manufacturers would routinely understate horsepower figures in order to remain within certain insurance ratings and for a couple of other reasons, but those days are long since gone... Right now, GM needs the bragging rights whenever they can get them... they certainly wont undersell the horespower of a car in the insanely competitive marketplace we are in today. The only stock Northstars producing those numbers are the slightly revised designs in the RWD cars from 2004 to now.

That isn't true...

GM has been understating the horsepower of cars forever and as late as 2002 maybe even later... Everyone knows the LS1s for example make way more power then GM claims. GM does this for lots of reasons.
1) Insurance is still expensive
2) NOTHING can have more power then the Corvette... if a car has the same motor... just down rate it and
3) You don't want to be caught with your pants down like Ford did with the late 90's Cobras which were grossly over rated and everyone sued. No one complains if you underrate a motor... over rate it and you get to talk to lawyers.

Back to the question... Did the collectors Eldo make an extra 25HP... my bet would be No.

I never thought it was any different until I read it here:

Like everything else, what's in that link is speculation (no empirical data). A dyno doesn't lie.
I thought the 03 Mustang Cobra was under-rated as well.. I could be wrong...

BOTH OF YOU--Go to blackboard and write 100 times: "I must learn to read correctly."

From what I hear here, moderators are always WRONG!!!

If you do not have access to a dyno, simply take your car to a festival where the Budweiser horses are on exhibit. Gather up 300 of those horses, attach them to your rear bumper and trying driving away from them. (To be fair, horses should face same direction as car.) If you can pull away from those 300 horses, then you know you have more than 300, maybe 325. Establishing exactly how many more than 300 can be the sticky problem. Don't forget to hire a few high school kids as pooper scoopers as the horses will likely create a problem.
lol... Alright, this one has obviously run its course. :lock:
