I saw this on the news today. A three month old Lexus burned to the ground while on I-94 (interstate that runs thru North Dakota-MN-Wisconsin) this morning. The owner said he was driving down the freeway, and it started acting funny and his dash "lit up like a christmas tree" and then he looked back and there was fire in the cabin. He pulled over and got out (unharmed) and watched as the car burned to the ground. So far it's not clear as to why the car started on fire, and he says his next choice in a brand new luxury sedan is a Lexus :bigroll: And the ironic thing is there's an Acura ad on the side of this webpage!

This happened to my friends BMW on the way to work one morning. One minute he was driving down the parkway, the next minute he was toasting marshmellows on his trunk.

Can you just hear this guy if the car was a Cadillac, Lincoln or Chrysler ?

"These damn American cars are crap! I was warning NOT to buy American, but next time I'm buying a Lexus!"

But, a Japanese car can unknowingly damn near explode into a fireball, with driver inside, driving fast, and he just barely escapes with his life, and unhurt and of course.......he is gonna buy another Lexus.....Why of course !

Goes to show what a snow job the imports have pulled on the American buyer. When I bought my new 2003 Town Car, my neighbor bought (within 3 weeks) a new Mercedes Benz C-Series. I have never had a single problem withj my Town Car. Flawless car. He, meanwhile has stood & watched 4 times as his Benz was loaded onto a flat bed to be taken back to the dealer, because of electrical problems keeping the car from starting. In summer of 2006 his A/C crapped out and he says the car has no power.
He is always complaining about it. BUT, this week he bought a new C230 sedan ! (2007). Beyond my belief ~

This sort of thing isn't all that uncommon in Southern Arkansas during the hot months. People will drive these poorly maintained beater cars around in the summer heat and they go up like dryer lint. Now....calling a new Lexus a poorly maintained beater car would be a stretch.

Besides the Caddy, I also have a Jetta diesel, so I'm on the VW board, too.
They're always bashing the Big 3, even though they haven't owned an American car in 15-20 years. The amazing part is that there's row upon row of threads about how their cars don't run, but it's the American cars that are no good! :hmm:

Future recalls on this car perhaps? Big media coverage?

One can only hope!

At this time, I don't even have a positive ID on what kind of Lexus it was.

All cars have problems.

Ford has major issues with suspension. Springs on Tauruses, Focuses, Escorts, Explorers, all are prone to breaking. Most notably on the Focus and Taurus some springs have come unseated and blown out tires causing severe accidents even death.

GM has issues with intake gaskets on almost everything but the northstar engine. Not to mention wheel bearings are really common across the board.

BMW, Jaguar, Mercedes, Lexus, Acura always typically have electrical issues because of all the extra gizmos and gadgets they put in to increase the cars amenities.

In any case all car companies have their issues, its all in how the car company and the consumer deal with them.

Yes, but as I'm sure you know, with GM-Ford-Chrysler everyone would know about it within 24 hours. With Toyota, it's always hush-hush, and no one thinks that's odd.

I think its very odd. If you notice all the domestic manufacturers are always very forthcoming about defects, recalls, or other similar issues. Foreign companies aren't. For what its worth a properly maintained car is reliable from any company, and a improperly maintained car is unreliable from any company.

Shoot.. my brother in law's brand new Monte Carlo SS with 9,000 miles burned in front of my parents house... it turns out the fire started in the ignition switch.

Luck of the draw I guess.. cause now he is driving a Cadillac
