We are currently approaching 80k on our 2019 Equinox. We still have our 2007 DTS. We found a nicely equipped new 24 XT6 we were thinking about trading in our Equinox for. After researching here and finding out about all the transmission issues being reported I think we will keep looking.

Many THANKS to everyone for sharing real time information.

Good idea! With all the problems that GM has with their transmissions, I will also look elsewhere when my 2020 XT6 transmission finally quits for the last time. I’m thinking a Mazda CX90 plug in hybrid. Great reviews, great reliability, and at a reasonable price. Good luck with your decision!

I'm in this camp. My 2020 XT6 Sport just passed 90k kms (~55k miles) with zero problems. My daughter's 2019 Equinox had the same 9 speed transmission (mated to a 2.0T engine) and zero problems as well.

I've recently been considering trading in for a 2024 or a 2025.

Good idea.
My issue isn’t the transmission though, my ‘23 has been flawless so far, but I don’t recommend as the XT6 was old when it was new.
This vehicle was a stopgap to appease the dealers wanting a three-row that wasn’t Escalade.
As a Chevrolet, I’d wholeheartedly recommend the XT6, but it fails miserably as a Cadillac

Our 19 Equinox has the 2.0 with the 9 speed also. No big maintenance issues. At 27k on the clock I wanted to confirm the trans fluid level and fluid condition. I’m anal about my vehicles. The fluid was full, but appeared black looked like used beat up engine oil. I have since changed it numerous times it always comes out black, see photos.

Have you considered having the fluid analyzed? Check out Blackstone Labs:

Automobiles - just as with any mass-produced mechanical contraption you will see creampuffs and turds. It's strictly the luck of the draw.

Try to find a Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday car. Never a Monday (hangover) or Friday (take this job and shove it) car.

I still have my MD used vehicle dealer license and the old adage "There's an ass for every seat!" is truer than ever.

Mazda CX-9 PHEV? I don't put too much stock in reviews, however ones that use owner's input such as the Consumer Reports below get my attention. Not saying an XT6 Cadillac is any better but the Mazda is no winner. No thanks.

The problem here with us is we have always stayed primarily with GM. Spending upwards towards $60k for a foreign vehicle just doesn’t bring me joy. My father fought in the Battle of the Bulge 87th infantry I still try to make informed decisions but also being respectful to the sacrifices my father and many others made for us.

Both me and my wife really like the XT6 but there are just too many reports of trans failures and extended repair times for us to look past...

We really would like to make a purchase b4 an elected idiot takes action to raise the cost of every single thing we buy and destroys our wealth 📉
It’s my feeling that the transmission problems aren’t as common as it seems. Yes they are failing, but it was a smaller batch of vehicles and considering the XT6 doesn’t sell in large numbers, it makes the problem appear quite large.

All carmakers are experiencing longer than normal repair times. For instance, my Jag sat at the dealer for 3 months wanting in a new alternator. On the flip, my XT6 needed a new control module for the power liftgate, and the dealer couldn’t give me a definitive repair date, part arrived 2 days later.

Understand your feelings about the war. My father lost vision in one eye due to a childhood accident because all the competent doctors were serving in WWII.

GM and other manufacturers have struggled with adapting to changes in supply chains that were created first by the pandemic and then by overseas wars. Those changes have been bumpy but were mostly sorted out. I would expect that a 2025 XT6 would be as reliable as my 2020 (which it most definitely is).

And while I understand that its challenging to talk about the tariffs without getting political, we half to respect that and keep our opinions out of this forum.

The Transmission issues "That plague the entire family of GM cars and trucks" in no way outshine the exceptionally poor 2.4l engine in your equinox... Which are known to fail as low as 50k miles with blown head gaskets and oil saturation in the coolant due to it... Causing a lean condition and destroying that motor...

Whats my point? You didnt research enough because if you had you would have found numerous posts recommending upgrading to a Mobil 1 synthetic trans fluid which helps alleviate most of the trans issues if done before the shudder issues occur.... Also seeing as you obviously trade your vehicles around 80k miles the xt6 powertrain warranty would cover you almost the entire time as well..

The xt6 is an amazing vehicle with very few overall maintenance problems... In fact i can count the big ones on less Than one hand... And they really arent big ones....

Face it all vehicles have their problems.... Ill take one that the problems are well known, documented, and easily resolvable over some of the alternatives.... The kia Telluride for instance which has a known engine fail rate in the high 10-20% range prior to 5k miles...

Choose your battles...

I edited this for language. Your entire post is off-base but doesn't violate any site rules so I will leave it as is, with only one word removed.

You are attacking another CF member because they decided to not buy a vehicle after reading information shared here by others. That's their prerogative and we should all respect it. There's no need to disparage their research or choice.

Your information about the Equinox engine is equally off-base. The OP here has a 2019 Equinox with a 2.0T engine - not the old 2.4L plant that for some reason fueled your rant. I have experience with the 2.0T and it's solid. I have zero experience with the 2.4L and don't care to.

I DIDNT ATTACK ANYONE... I EXPLAINED THAT THEY MISSED SOME OF THE ACTUAL POSITIVE POINTS OF THE XT6...

Dont presume to reprimand me in public for anything!! Much less accuse me of something I didnt do... Next time you decide to "PLAY" Admin and edit anything maybe learn to read for context..if you decide to give feedback learn how to PUNISH in private and PRAISE in public.

Thank you sir.
