Don't mean to jack this thread but what size tire can you go to before you start to decrease performance?

Not alot of room under there, without going to fender flares. I'd stick with the 8.5" if you already have them, or you may need to "add" clearance.

When increasing rim diameter, you decrease sidewall but in general the overall diameter remains unchanged if you do it right. That's why when going from an 18" wheel to 20", your tire size goes from 245/45 to 245/35. The fact you go to a shorter sidewall often gives the added wheel gap effect because there is less rubber. But the overall tire diameter is the same.
