What does disabling grade braking do?
Really? What it does is it prevents the downshifting of the tranny. As you are aware, braking alone does not stop your vehicle, especially when towing. Simply put... the brakes would overheat. The feature works well but in this case the op is worried about his tranny and gas mileage ( bought a Slade and worried about gas lol)

I just bought a 2019 Escalade with 50K miles on it and it seems to be motor breaking when ever I take my foot off of the accelerator. By "motor breaking", I mean that the vehicle seems to be in a gear that slows it down, whether on flat or down hill grades. It never feels like it is coasting unless I put it in neutral. This can't be good for the transmission and it reduces my gas mileage. This is the 4th Escalade that I have owned, so I know how it should feel. Anyone else experience this problem?
Thanks!
My guy.. if you disable the tow/haul feature and the "engine braking" goes away... CONGRATULATIONS, your truck is working fine. Just get used to it. If you don't like how the truck feels... you will need to turn this off EVERY startup. As a note though, if after disabling feature your truck STILL slows down then you have other issues. Back to the dealer.

Drive it on manual 9th gear and see if it makes a difference. Driving on 9th gear puts the truck into v8 mode. The 2018-2020 has the 10 speed which is an awesome transmission. I have not seen on any forum anyone complain about the 10-speed.
So I’m thinking I might just drive it around in manual 9 to illuminate the cylinder drop, except for when I’m going on the highway?

I would take it to the dealer and if they come up with nothing found than ask them to drive with you in another Escalade that has the same transmission as you to show you that it’s normal. This is probably your best bet. The 2018-2020 Escalade drives great and you should not behaving issues. The recommend transmission fluid change is 45k if you tow or do allot of stop and go. The 10 speed under normal conditions does not require a fluid change. It would not make sense to change the fluid at 50k because of this issue. You will just throw away money. You should disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset the computer to see if that fixes it.
I have an appt. with the dealer a week from tomorrow. I like the idea of having them driving another Escalade to see if they feel the same thing. Thanks.

Sounds like the trans. I’ve driven an Audi w/ a 4.2L V8 slushbox and noticed whenever I let off the gas the car didn’t coast, it decelerated. It felt like the models with a sport mode.

What you’re describing is likely related to the torque converter. When driving you’ll want to compare the RPM to the engine speed on the identical road for each vehicle.
