I just bought a 2019 Escalade with 50K miles on it and it seems to be motor breaking when ever I take my foot off of the accelerator. By "motor breaking", I mean that the vehicle seems to be in a gear that slows it down, whether on flat or down hill grades. It never feels like it is coasting unless I put it in neutral. This can't be good for the transmission and it reduces my gas mileage. This is the 4th Escalade that I have owned, so I know how it should feel. Anyone else experience this problem?
Thanks!

There is definitely something wrong because this is the 4th Escalade I owned as well and it drives better than all of them put together. Now I would recommend getting the GMPP since you still have the miles that will allows you too. I have 86k and the only issue I had was lifter failure at 79k and had to change my front struts at 69k.

I know what you’re saying. Don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s because it shifts into four-cylinder mode?
Drive it on manual 9th gear and see if it makes a difference. Driving on 9th gear puts the truck into v8 mode. The 2018-2020 has the 10 speed which is an awesome transmission. I have not seen on any forum anyone complain about the 10-speed.

yeah I’m kind of thinking that’s what it is, the transmission is staying in to the lower gear cause there’s 10 of them to choose from and I’m just not used to that

What is GMPP? I took it back to the dealer and they did not seem to think that there was a problem, (but there is).

So, to put it in to 9th gear, I put shift it into L and then use the + - button moving it up to 9?

It is an extended warranty that they sell from GM. The place the has the lowest price is Jack Black Cadillac in PA. You could also finance it. I would put your truck in manual 9th gear which will put it into full v8 mode to see if that makes a difference.

When I put it in neutral, it coasts, so I don't think that it's the brakes.
It is easy enough to check the brakes and eliminate as a possible cause or contributor. Everything else will need a technician to diagnose the problem. For example, it could be the torque converter is locking up when it shouldn't be.

How many miles have you driven it since you bought it? It may take some time for the transmission to learn and adapt to your driving habits. Another option is to have the dealer reflash or reset the transmission so it starts learning from scratch.

I tried driving with it in 9th gear and it did not make any difference. When I take my foot off of the accelerator, say at 30-40 MPH, the tach has me at about 1200 RPMs. If I shift into neutral, the tach reduces to about 500-600 RPMs.

I've driven it 600 miles so far. I'm leaving on a 3000+ mile trip tomorrow.

I would take it to the dealer and if they come up with nothing found than ask them to drive with you in another Escalade that has the same transmission as you to show you that it’s normal. This is probably your best bet. The 2018-2020 Escalade drives great and you should not behaving issues. The recommend transmission fluid change is 45k if you tow or do allot of stop and go. The 10 speed under normal conditions does not require a fluid change. It would not make sense to change the fluid at 50k because of this issue. You will just throw away money. You should disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset the computer to see if that fixes it.

Try disabling the tow/haul feature on the gear shift by long pressing the button. You will get an alert when it has it been successful. That is the engine/trailer brake option. You will need to do this each time you start the car however.

What does disabling grade braking do?
