Recently got an xt5 i noticed this rattling noise primarily during acceleration . took it to cadi dealer, they changed the heat shield because it was" bent". problem wasn't fixed. Now, noise duration has reduced, but this rattling noise persists during shifting of gears. what could this be ? Do xt5 normally make any noise during gear shifts

First guess, if it is only occurring during shifts, is a loose or worn tranny mount. I am new to the XT5 myself, but most modern trans mounts ars simply a bracket secured by a couple of bolts and "rubber" damping material. I don't want to characterize them as delicate but I think you get the drift. Again, best first guess, as a newbie to the XT5, based on past experience. Usually a very inexpensive fix.

My 18 XT5 is quiet. What you're experiencing isn't normal. From what you describe the noise isn't intermittent so when you take it back to the dealer there should be no question that there is a problem.

Back from Cadillac dealer, took 2018 XT5 in for a rattling/chatter noise most noticeable at lower speeds but covered by road noise at higher speeds. Technician said that it is coming from the flex pipe. Catalytic converter is fine. Estimates $500 for repair, not covered under warranty as the mileage is 58,850. I'm surprised that my vehicle is exhibiting issues. Sad. Thought the quality was better.

Did you expect it will last forever? That repair is not out of the ordinary. If you do not want to spend the $500, you can live with the noise and learn to ignore it.

The only way to find out what is causing it is to have a proper inspection done. Rattles can come from many sources: loose heat shield, loose exhaust clamp or hanger, etc. I have even seen where a noise was caused every time there was a transmission shift, as each time there was enough play to bang into the exhaust. Most of these involve loose parts and likely not expensive to fix, but you don't want it to become so loose that it falls off. :)

I had what it sounds like you’re describing and figured it out to be the exhaust bracket where the down pipes come together.
It had cracked all the way across and was difficult to find. I ordered and installed the new bracket and it is totally gone!
